I was just wondering that supposedly many people have "after-effects" once using an Ouija board, like loads of un-explained things happening. Now out of the many times that me and my mates have mucked about (through childhood and through teenage years) we've never had anything like this happen to us, which I spose is strange ?? But what I mainly want to know is... do you get "after-effects" from doing a Sayonse ??? (I'm unsure how to spell that word) [ Where everyone holds hand around a candle ].

Yes, normally an uneasiness, trouble sleeping and a feeling that someone is in the room. Once, I was afterwards speaking to those involved in the seance, and we had a situation where a pendulum clock stopped for about half a minute. All of which, of course, can be rationally explained and it is many years since curiousity led me down to carrying out a seance.

During the seance, however, we got positive results such as audible knocking etc...

    Interesting!

How did you get a recording of this knocking sound? With a normal tape recorder? Or with some kind of EVP recording machine??

He didn't say he recorded anything...

Anyway, in the 1970s a group did a fascinating experiment: They invented a person and then did seances with this imaginary person to see if it was infact the human expectation that caused it.

They called him Phil (I think...). They worked out where he was born, what his family were like, how he died etc etc. They worked out loads of details until he seemed very real to them. Then, in a series of seances they made contact with Phil. One knock for yes etc. He claimed he was Phil and responded as they would have expected Phil to respond.

One of my favourite experiments I've read about so far.

    This page explains it: http://www.themystica.com/mystica/articles/p/philip.html

Although they seem to slip in their own conclusions...

Derran (sp?) brown did a similar experiment as well, live on channel 4 ages ago. What I found surreal though is I started picking up information myself from it, which I found wierd. I even twigged onto the other place she has an associatin with, and there were other bits as well, but suffice to say, she was alive and well, and I have no idea how I picked up all that information... and I was watching from my dorm room, lol

Yeah, as Zillah said, I didn't get any recordings or evidence from it, at the time I was young, and was just curious, rather than serious about paranormal phenomenon. Myself and 4 others held a seance, and the knocks we got in reply to questions made sense, and were at the correct time. It sounded distant, yet we could all clearly hear them, almost like a door being slammed upstairs if you understand. Not in the same room.

We also hadn't a clue what we were doing, we were just open, and used the traditional seance (not using a medium as a conduit for a spirit possession) with candles etc. Was surprised by the results tbh.

Derren Brown is a mentalist. He has never claimed psychic powers of any sort. He's a pyschologist.

EDIT: Upon further investigation (dictionary.com...) it appears a mentalist is something somewhat magic. Perhaps my useage of that word is in error. Regardless, Im fairly sure Derren Brown does not claim magic powers.

He certainly is not a magician. He specialises in trying to show the power of the human mind and how seemingly paranormal events could be created.
