Great Speech play by this guy HaroldBishop - got to see a showdown with AK on this scary board!!! Had to tip my hat to him,

After some timid betting because of the hands in play and the scary board the pot wasn't too big and your man might have checked anyway, but I thought it was good and deserved a little post.....

Board: [Jh, 5c, 10d], [Kh], [Ah]
    After the River was dealt
    > ohforf checked
    HaroldBishop> save the rake!...
    HaroldBishop> we all got straight?
    HaroldBishop> save rake

    > HaroldBishop checked
    > Larry_Hmm checked
    > ohforf shows Two Pair, Aces over Fives
    > HaroldBishop mucked [ KS, AC ]
    > Larry_Hmm shows a Straight, Ace high
    > Larry_Hmm wins $15.95 with a Straight, Ace high
    HaroldBishop : Checks
    Larry_Hmm : Checks
    ohforf : Shows cards [ AD, 5S ]
HaroldBishop : Mucks cards [ KS, AC ]
    Larry_Hmm : Shows cards [ JC, QS ]

    Showdown
HaroldBishop [ AH, AC, KH, KS, JH - Two Pair ]
    Larry_Hmm [ AH, KH, QS, JH, 10D - Straight ]
    ohforf [ AH, AD, 5C, 5S, KH - Two Pair ]

I actually logged on to post another speech play, and saw this one ... so I'll add it here.

I just got an email from a friend in Lincolnshire who was playing in a tournament organised by the local football club. He heard this from the table behind him.

Here's the important part of his email.

    "Bollix"
    "What"
"Well, some of you fishy bastards are bound to have an ace in your hands, the rest of you will have a king, and you pricks will call them all the way to the river no matter what I bet, which means I can't play this hand with that flop. Well f**k you all, I'm going all in. You make me sick"

I looked over and the flop was AKK. Four of the 6 players in post flop called his all-in, calling him names and dishing out abuse. Cards were turned over and he showed pocket Kings. There were 2 aces with rags, another bloke had a pair of 8s and another had QJ.

Pulling in his chips he said "Cheers lads. That'll save me re-buying."
Then he called the tournament director and asked to be moved to a different table as he was offended by the abusive language at that one.

    Priceless.

    now that, gentlemen, is genius.

'excuse me, i wish to be moved due to the offensive nature of the language at this table. i, of course, have not played a part in the matter.'

If you're planning on calling a bet reluctantly, you shouldn't discourage a bet. This was only good if he was intending to fold his AK.

I can be fairly certain he was folding, would you call any bet on this board, with 3 h's and any Q making the nut straight??

I might, but I'm a fish. What I meant is this - the only situation where he gains money by not having someone bet is where someone else bluffs at the pot (with less than AK) and he folds. Is his speech play aimed at preventing a bluff? Or is it that he couldn't stand the thought that he might be bluffed, so tries to get a free showdown to confirm he was beaten anyway?

I think, if he has the feeling he has the best hand, there's absolutely no point in betting because he will only be called by a hand that will beat him, also he couldn't call a re-raise or even a raise, so he makes it look like he has the Q meaning only a flush will bet ... If his hand was good it prevents him from getting bluffed off the pot, and if by a small miracle he has the best hand, he'll win the same amount by checking it down as he would by betting.
