has anyone ever gotten really good food on flights? which is the best airline for food?

my vote probably goes to cross-air (swiss airline) for their freshly squeezed orange juice....

BA are very good but only for long haul from london, i took their return from new york back to london and it was dire tbh
kuwait and air india are top of the line also
obviously on short haul flights your not going to get anything unless u fly british midland who are also very good.

No... Iv personally never had a meal on a flight and thought "jesus that was gorgeous" Iv never flown first class but I dont doubt that the food would be class on those flights..

Iv only ever flown with Futura - hotdog weener, few cubes of pototo, frilly looking gray "omlett"

    Monestry - Cottage Pie (disturbing)

Ryan Air - short flight so no meal

    Pegasus - similar to Futura

Its all edible enough but not the kind of thing you look forward to or remember fondly..

Here's a few possibilities. Happy hunting

    Airline Meals

Personally I've never really had a good meal on an aeroplane.

And didn't Crossair disappear down the swannee along with big brother Swissair?

Iv flown a fair bunch of airlines, some good, some really crap. So far South African Airways has been top of the class :D. Lufthanansa has been the worst, BA was also terrible last i flew with them in january.
I flew American Airlines yeaars ago - had the funniest experience. We where on a longhaul from Atlanta to South Africa, it got to about 9:30 at nite so i was expecting a little dinner. The hostests started walking around with boxes of frozen snicker icecreams  .About 20 minutes they come around with these things again, i was very confused. Short story we where basically served these icecreams all nite without supper  , no comment was made on our supper? Very odd.

Aer Lingus before they became low fares. I remember going to Paris with my aunt and having salmon, i was about 7

Had a pretty dire meal going to the States last summer, American Airlines

BA going to Aus was gorgeous!

Actually I tell a lie... They always have pringles on flights :D

Airport Food is a huge rip off though... I bought a ham and cheese roll (pre-packed) on the way back from Tenerife last summer and it was €5.20  that was without even buying a drink

true, they charge a fortune for food on aerlingus flights now. i think it was something like a euro for a chocolate bar last time i used them!

    Ooh er missus!

Both spellings of the word are correct. 'aeroplane' is the preferred form in Uk/Ireland English but I find ‘airplane' perfectly acceptable too.

Certainly not a tenth as bad as all those annoying 'z's in americaniSed English anyway.

Singapore air does a pretty decent meal in economy, and serves a very pleasent 3 course meal in business if you are lucky enough to fly that way

It quite nice actually being served 3 distinct and very tasty courses. The Hagen Daz at the end just tops it off. Not to mention some of the nicest looking most pleasent air hostesses to serve it all to you

Mmmm, I must fly them again soon

Theres a bar in Dublin Airport, cant remember which gate its at but went in after checking in early for a holiday and it was great value for money... I ordered a glass of wine and the girl actually took a bottle of wine out of the fridge and filled a huge wine glass for me and charged me about €4.00.. Id say there was easily half a bottle in this glass and they had amazing looking full Irish breakfasts for about €6.50, unfortunately we arrived just in time to see the last one being served  Now every time we fly anywhere Im praying we get that gate :p

Most internal US flights I've ever been on did good standard of food, but you always had to pay for the damn alcohol.
Transatlantic, I've had mixed experiences of...AerLingus prolly had best drinks policy, but terrible food.

As for EU flights ...in my childhood airline food/drink was pretty good...nowadays they give you the damn ticket free then spend the rest of the time trying to sell you sh*t at insane mark-ups....I dunno; maybe it's better that way...

As far as airline food goes, the best that I've ever had was on Singapore Airlines. I had 4 long haul flights with them in a row. 2 there and 2 back, and the food on each flight was really good.... As the OP said, I thought to myself, wow this is really nice.

If you were hungry at any stage you could ask for a bowl of noodles with a selection of sauces etc...

    Quality airline...

Virgin Atlantic - both the economy and Upper Class food was good. BA Economy Long Haul - so/so. Had great food on the way out, dire on the way back (catered from the US). bmi used to do a nice line in free food, but they've done away with that now - the free sandwiches were of good quality.

BA Economy short-haul always did a nice line of just right sized meals - haven't flowm them in a while though, so can't comment.

Good food can be provided on aircraft, but it does take some thought on behalf of the airline and the caterers. It'll never be perfect, but it doesn't have to be slop either.

yes, it must be about five years ago, and from what i remember it was quite good it was no 5* meal but there is certainly worse out there.

Went first class from Shannon to New York last year and had fresh dublin bay prawns, fillet steak, hot scones with jam and cream, all the wine I could drink and many other things. That was unreal. It was really good food!

Is Aer Lingus still that chicken and then beef something or another? rotten! I always bring my own food, sandwich or whatever.

The worst I've had was Chicago - San Diego on American Airlines. No proper meal, you picked up a bag beside the door as you entered the plane. It contained an ice-cold roll with the most plastic turkey and cheese slices I've ever tasted, a packet of crisps, a couple of biscuits and some other snack type thing that I can't ecatly remember. My friend is vegetarian and was given the special vegetarian meal, the same as mine minus the roll, but nothing to replace it. Truly pathetic.

I flew with Delta (economy) to Atlanta about 10 years ago, and they kept piling on the food and drink for the whole duration of the flight, it was great.
    I haven't seen food on a short haul flight (i.e. Dublin-London or Dublin-Paris) in a few years.

Cathay Pacific are hands down the best. I've flown with a lot of different airlines and they serve quality food.
BA are by far the worst - terrible food.

Cathay Pacific and Quantas both do fantastic 3 course meals in business class. Each course is served individually like in a restaurant too... I'd say most business/first class flights in a lot of the top airlines will have quality food. Business/Premium class food on airlingus was a package/bag with the word premium class printed on it. The bag had a bottle of tipperary water, a small bag of chocolate chip cookies which wasn't great and some horrible sandwich. It's similar to what zaph had on that chicago flight...needless to say I wasn't impressed.

Isn't airline food full of salt and extra flavouring, because your taste buds don't work as well up there - apparently if you tried to eat airline food on the ground you wouldnt be able to because they taste so strong...
