Oh wow do you need to learn how to describe a problem... Help us help you, and all that jazz.

    When did the drives disappear?
Have you been doing any work on the PC? Installing new hardware? Changing BIOS settings?
What stuff did you find on Google?

Uh huh... Um, is English a second language for you? (No offence-it just might explain some things and get people off your back..)

So..you did an "XP Repair"..right? i.e. It re-installs Windows, but not by formatting the HDD first..?

Right so.. were the drives working right after doing this Repair? (i.e. For the thus far unaccount 1-2 days)

Also: Why were you sent an XP disc? What was your original problem?

ok eng my normal lang but bit dyslexic.yes i done a repair.see i had a windows key and installed a english windows so did not work so they send me out a eng key and cd.im not sure about when the drives were missing .

    ..

    righty..

Are you absolutely sure there's no optical drive or Unknown Devices!? ..Try manually adding the hardware.

    Otherwise:
Backup your info - at this stage it's only a precaution - and do a XP /System Restore- this doesn't delete/modify your data(however, given the recent changes-it'd be advisable to backup just in case) - back 1-2 days.

If this fails: Do a full Recovery.

well, seeing as you used a cd to install windows, then it will have been since the reinstall.

So a) something has gone wrong, maybe look at backing up, and reformatting

    b) Cd-rom's have no drivers, so get automatically recognised by windows, the fact they're not appearing usually points to a botch in windows, could have been caused by virtual drive software, which wasn't uninstalled properly, so try and remove these fully.

    I'd probs go with b.

    Who sent you a CD?

What make is the pc, what chip/processor?

Boot from the disk, etc and do a Full Recovery/Installation - i.e. wipe the contents of the HDD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,227 ✭✭✭awhir
