    Hi. I'm starting a new job on friday, getting paid minimum wage etc. It's my first job, part time and I dont have a P45 yet. How much money will they take off me? I'm 18 btw, in school

    Biz > Work here tbh.

    You won't be taxed 'cause you're on minimum wage, but you will be on emergency tax until you get it sorted out.

    1. If you don't have one, get a PPS number pretty fast otherwise you will pay tax at 42% from the start.

    2. Call revenue and get a tax cert issued to you and your employer.

    3. If you have a PPS number you will be put om emergency tax and you will get a basic standard rate cut-off and tax credit and if you pay tax, it will not be very much.

    4. Some people look at Emergency tax as a savings account. You get SOME back at the end. It is easier if you get the PPS number and tax cert well before 31st December as you will get any tax that is due to you back in your pay cheque. Otherwise you will have to apply to revenue for the repayment.

    dummy is right get it sorted asap to avoid the dreaded emergency tax
