    Yeah its a great show.

Poor old sky trying to rip it off with Brainiac History/Science abuse!

yup - some great topics on it.
The two presenters have a wealth of experience in special effects / stunts.
As pacifco mentioned, Brainic is pure pants compared to it.

Yeah that Brainiac show is a fairly slack attempt to rip off mythbusters. Adam and Jamie rock.

Yeah, Mythbusters is a great show. I came across it by accident one evening I was channel hopping. It's a good watch.

Brilliant show. Love that Kari one.
Any myth involving guns or explosions is fine by me. I loved that one where they blew up the cement mixer

The coolest show on TV tbh.

i am a big fan of carrie the redhead - shes gorgeous and into experimentation

    It's a good show alright.

Gotta love the beret though. It makes the show tbh. It should have its own show. With the moustache being the co-presenter. They'd be a fantastic double-act, a right bunch of lads!

Some the solutions/experiment solutions they come up with are a bit weak. I remember the one where they were shooting a frozen chicken at a windscreen (:D), and one of the lads said that a fresh chicken would cause as much damage as a frozen chicken. WTF?! I have a basic understanding of physics and even I knew that was pure bull!

Love it,brings out my inner nerd.

Actually had one my favourite myths from when I was a kid... the one about dropping a penny off The Empire State Building and it's impact being able to kill someone.
    :v:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,794 ✭✭✭chillywilly

another favourite was the cola and pop rocks, i think it took about 24 cans before the stomach exploded!

as someone else said, the cement mixer one was cool! the last blast wasnt even nessesary, they blatently just blew it to smitherines!!!

no one is talking about adam?>?!? Maybe he should grow a tash like jamie!!!

My favourite myth when they proved it was possible to escape from alcatraz!

Wait until you see the episode where they test the myth that you can electrocute yourself by peeing on a railroad track.

Anyone want to know the answer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

Anyone else think Mythbusters has been really shíte recently? It seems they only do rehashes of old myths and/or the ones they do investigate are not really myths nor are they interesting.

Oh, and don't get me started on that whole thing where they showed old episodes with like one or two unaired scenes. Lame.

Yeah definitely going downhill. Caught one of the really old ones (1st season?) on Quest the other night and the presenters all seemed a lot more enthusiastic and the inventions and workshop builds were farily epic.

To contrast I watched one of the very newest eps the other night (one about the tornado shield) and it just didn't grab me. Adam and Jamie still know their stuff but seem a bit bored with it or something....the other three just get on my nerves mostly now (although to be fair they know their stuff too), whereas years back even Carrie was bearable.
Interesting to see Reed Timmer and Sean Casey from Storm Chasers on this the other night too, getting on like the best of friends...which is a far cry from how they interact on SC.

Still one of the more watchable of popular shows, but probably becoming the victim of it's own success I would say...

    Zombie threads ftw.

Yeah, didn't want to start a new one just to bitch about the show.

The storm chaser one was pretty poor alright, felt like an episode pushed upon them by the network in order to tie in with the new series of Storm Chasers. Prior to that they've still been fun.

Yep..he's "asked" them to re visit Archimedes Death Ray. I still like it as a show tho. It gets a little boring when it's just blowing up stuff though.

That one was on last night....these guys could teach the Top Gear team about how to blow a budget in the shortest time...all those brass mirrors and a remote control bus lol

Actually they are going to revisit it again (doing it for the third time) and use 500 kids holding mirrors.....

Yeah, I love it too.. It would be a great job to have.

I think it's still a great show, still better than most of everything else on tv. Like all shows that run as long as this has, there will invariably be some evolution, it's hard to keep something constant over nearly a decade. They might be less fresh and new than they were at the start, but I can't see how anybody could expect them to be, after seven years.

Also I think mabey some people see them as that band only they knew about. In the early days only a handful of people watched it and they thought it was the greatest thing ever, now you have a cameo from the president of the united states, and this might be the peak of popularity for any show.

Anyway the best thing about mythbusters has come about during the past couple years, this absurdly brilliant relationship they have going with Craig Ferguson, exemplified in this video.

always looking for the shows when the mythbusters are on its hard to find

mythbusters is hit and miss, 6/7 seasons were good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭L31mr0d

That last episode, "Cold Feet" was diabolically bad... they are really scraping the barrel for myths now (crap they'll probably do an episode about the idiom "scraping the barrel")

This season started off well but took a steep nose dive with that series of "Buster's cut" episodes which where basically just previous episodes stitched together differently.

They need to get back to what has made the series great, Adam pranking Jamie and messing up his pressed white shirt and that walrus mustache, EXPLOSIONS!, Kari in lycra shooting massive guns and artillary, EXPLOSIONS!, Tory hurting himself and Grant inventing killer robots... did I mention, MORE EXPLOSIONS!

Can you touch molten lead without burning your skin?
Can a cowboy shoot a gun out of a person's hand without injuring him?
Is the 50-foot bus jump seen in Speed possible in real life?
Can you skip a car over a lake?
Why are dimples crucial to the flight of golf balls?
Can a V-shaped snowplow really split a car in two?
Will a car dropped from 4,000 feet fall faster than a speeding car?
    Pykrete boat
Can a person swim faster in syrup than in water?
Did Hungarian archers get twice the penetration shooting a bow from a galloping horse?

Can you accidentally kill yourself with a bullet that ricochets off three walls?
Could a medieval army have used trees to catapult dead bodies over a castle wall?
Does pepper spray + flannel shirt + stun gun = massive fireball, per CSI?
Can a person be launched 115 feet into a kiddie pool from a giant waterslide?
Jamie, Adam, Kari, Grant and Tory take on snot and sneezes?

    all good

Watching a new episode at the moment: they've reversed the body on a Porsche 928, to see if it's more aerodynamic going backwards than forwards.

I have to agree that most of their best bits don't involve explosions. I'm happy they did "plane on a conveyor belt", but my all time favourite bit has to be the "bull in a china shop" myth. Simple to test, and the result ... :p

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

In fairness, a lot of what makes the show is the banter/contrast between their characters.

    Controlling a car with a xbox/ps3 pad,

I wanna see the Eagle dive from Assasins Creed :P

Mythbusters is the still the best show on TV

My fav episodes were escape from alcatraz, the moonlanding, the hindenburg, underwater car, dog myths and special supersized myths

Also loved the simple ones like red flag to a bull, bull in a china shop, needle in a haystack, mentos and soda, fainting goats (viral hour) and banana slip!

They have busted so many myths it's frustrating even talking to people, some garage attendant was having a fit because he saw someone using his mobile phone, felt like shouting across "Watch Mythbusters and get educated"

I started watching it, but Mythbusters has become one of those things that I know within 5 seconds whether or not I'm in the mood for it.

    I wasn't ;)

I used to watch it a lot, think it kind of went downhill somewhere around the time that Grant joined up with Kari and Tory, think it was much better with the other girl,Scottie I think her name was,Grant just gets on my nerves for some reason.

    Adam enthuasism is brilliant.

I wonder how well the guys get on.
