inserting disk 2 please help

can someone sort this out for me do u need to turn off the machine to insert disc 2 of a 2 disc game my wife says i do, i say i dont because by turning it of ur loosing all the stuff u have loaded from disc 1.

1) Don't turn off the console.
2) Take out the first disk.
3) Insert the second disk.
4) Make "I told you so" face at wife.
