    howdy guys,
what's your favourite "tool" to find new friends on line?
    1) chat (mIrc, icq, others) :v:
    2) websites (dating on line, myspace.com)
    3) forums (boards.ie :p ) :D
    4) others (???)

i would say the point 1), what about u?

    see ya

3 and 1, usually I get to know people in forums and then start to chat with them via ICQ/other messenger.

ehh.... as a newbie to discussion boards, well to boards.ie, i seem to find that people are alot more open and helpful, but to actually make friends with them!?! in what way would you consider someone a friend. how can you be friends with someone who you've never met, and also, how weird is it to meet someone in person from the net, even weirder, a couple of friends of mine have had long distance relationships with people from the internet (galway and leeds). i find the whole thing strange.

    Through e-mail..

I happen to be very good friends with the widows of several disposed African dictators... I'm helping them move some funds around.. it's all good.

Well i don't set out to make new friends online, but boards is a good place to chat, cos nearly everyone live in Ireland, therefore meeting up when you get to know each other wouldn't be hard plus boards organises things like BoardsBeers etc.. not that you have to drink at them as the name might indicate. Msn is good I find, as your friends on it can add people into a chat convo to make it into a mini-chat room, then you can get to know people that way.

Also, if you have a particular hobbie it'd be good to join a site in that area. Like i like art, so I joined deviant art, it's the Internets (and possible the worlds) Largest art community.

It's odd that he would come online to find them, most people just use their natural charm.

Completely off topic. Who is John McCormack in your sig? The only famous one I know of has been dead a while. :p

And back on topic. It would be number 1 for me, although only a handful. As others have said cyberspace is a strange place and not one conducive to lifelong friendships.

I have spoken to several people online who I would have met in person first but really got to know over the internet, and chat programs like msn kind of strenghtened our friendships. Then there are people who I'd have spoken to a lot on IRC but would have never met IRL and when I meet them in real life I would be friendly towards them and it wouldn't be like we're meeting for the first time.

But nothing beats *actual* human contact for friend-making. :v:

Have made a few friends through myspace and MSN (in that order).... and one or 2 through IRC...

Tbh real life contact is the best way though....
