do you think having an obsession/addiction with an internet forum is a valid reason to go to therapy?

when do you know its to the point where you need help?

135 posts I wouldn't worry too much :P I think the point where you need help is.. when you would rather stay in and post on the forum than go out with your friends or to college or whatever.. not that it's happened to me.. ahem (damn you oceanicflight815 boards) But seriously all the therapist will tell you is to cut back on the time you spend on the forums (use them in moderation) and find hobbies/interests/clubs/etc that don't involve sitting behind a pc for hours.. :v:

So long as the addiction to the message board doesn't affect your social life then it's grand, I supose.

What is this "other forum" that you speak of?

It's fine as long as you don't start missing nights out/work/friends just so you can post on a board. I spend alot of time on the computer, but I know I'm not addicted or anything because I can switch off from it and not think about it. For me posting on a site is just an alternative to watching TV, whittling away idle time.

When you start asking questions like this off people who dont know you in anyway.

Some people have addictive personalities, they can get addicted to *anything*. I was in irish college YEARS ago with a guy who was addicted to vicks inhaler :)

Well to be honest it never interferes with my social life. I still go out with my girlfriend, go out for drinks, hang out with my friends, go to the cinema and all that jazz.....it's more of case of it sucking up all my free time then sucking up my social time.

it depends if your obsession is really a problem? society would say so but its up to you to decide. Ive an addictive personality so im always addicted to one thing or another. once i was so addicted to pokemon on my gameboy i used to cut college and play all day. just depends, mine usually fizzle out after a while. at the moment its boards and ebay but id rather do these things that work cos im lazy. i wouldnt rather post than go out with my boyf for example
