Hi have a Radeon X300 SE. Tried installing the latest drivers for it and i get these screens

I recently formatted my pc, so the device manager has a ? beside video controller and video controller(VGA Compatible).

BTW, my PC is a dimension 8400.

Uninstall all current drivers, restart, make sure the standard vga driver is showing in your settings as current installed, then install drivers.

Also it goes without saying that it will not install if it is not compatiable with your card, so make sure you have the right set of catalyst drivers.

    Uninstall all current drivers,

    There are none installed
make sure the standard vga driver is showing in your settings

Where do i get the standard VGA driver?

Also it goes without saying that it will not install if it is not compatiable with your card, so make sure you have the right set of catalyst drivers.

    Yeah, have the correct ones

Go in through safe mode and try to install the drivers.

    To quote Microsoft here
However, if you choose any Safe mode options, the generic Microsoft Standard VGA driver is used with the restrictions that are noted in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

257562 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257562/EN-US/) Hibernate and Standby Are Not Available When Using Standard VGA

Although judging from your earlier post
? beside video controller and video controller(VGA Compatible)

Microsoft say that this in the other devices category.
Note that Video Controller (VGA Compatible) (with a yellow question mark next to it) is displayed under the Other Devices branch in Device Manager.

What drivers are you using ?

And use Driver Cleaner Pro , in safe mode , after you have uninstalled through "add/remove programs" in control panel . Reboot and cancel when windows try to find the drivers , then run your catalyst driver program .

    John .

Download and install a program called Driver cleaner pro . You can find it here . Now go to "control panel , then add/remove programs " and make sure there is nothing there relating to ATI , if there is , remove it . Then restart your pc , but before windows kicks in , hit f8 , or as i do , continue to hit f8 while you are waiting for it to start , now from the dos type menu , choose safe mode . When the windows starts in safe mode , run driver cleaner pro . Now in Driver cleaner pro , go to "tools" and choose "cab cleaner" . When that is finished , in the " cleaning slection" make sure it is set to ATI and click start . When that is finished , empty your recycle bin . Then restart normally . When windows starts it will pop up a window looking for the vga drivers , click "cancel" , then run your program that contains your new drivers . At the moment I am using the catalyst 5.11 drivers that can be downloaded from www.ati.com and work from all ati based graphics cards .

I am not one of the best at describing how to do things , bt I hope this works for you , I have also tried to write it as simply as I can , not being condesending , just not sure how much you know about pc's .

Is this a laptop with an X300 or a full desktop model? ATI's own drivers don't support the laptop cards without some messing about, and will probably give you an INF error if you try to install them.
If it is a laptop X300, get the drivers from here: http://www.omegadrivers.net/

    1. www.ati.com
    2. pick drivers and software
    3. select ur os e.g xp
    4. select the drivers e.g Windows XP Drivers and Software
    5. select ur card from the list:
    RADEON
    ALL-IN-WONDER
    TV Tuners
    Remote Controls
    FireGL
    FireMV
    RAGE
    Motherboards with ATI Graphics
    Notebooks with ATI Graphics

    6. then select ur driver e.g Catalyst 5.11 Windows XP - Driver Download
