Yes I have heard this too. My boss mentioned it momentarily on Friday evening to me, though as it was hometime, I didn't push for details!

I believe it's not to be free though, from what I gathered (listened to), there is an extra charge of €35 or something?

Must look into it on Monday.

Ah, thanks for clarifying that. Sky must be realising the potential custom they're losing from households who don't want a landline.

Is this the same for Sky + as well?

quick question on the side... what is the monthly rate for the cheapest package that has RTE in it? the Sky site is anything but user friendly. :D

Why are they charging anything for those without a landline?

I've never had a phone connected to my skybox - it wasn't compulsory when I signed up years ago.

thanks. so if i wanted to get it, it would be 37.50 plus the 21.50 a month.

if i already have my own box do i still have to pay them the 37.50??

No in that case just get your friendly independent to order a card for you as RTE are no longer tied to individual boxes.

Installs weren't free when you got it either then, I'd assume. A few years ago, no, phonelines weren't compulsory, though I still used a phone reel, to activate the card (ringing Sky any time can be very hit and miss when it came to manual activation). Standard install used to be €50 (was €75 I think at another stage).

It was free when I got it too. I reckon it was about 6 years ago.

since you know your stuff, is the rumour that skys HD service will be free for those who have the top tier package, only making the customer buy the £500 HDbox.
Ive heard this rumour but im not sure if its true or not.

Idea being behind it that if someone wanted HD they would have to upgrade to sky world and buy a HD box.
