Pat Griffin, Craig Minnes and Tom did a three way deal with Tom getting 8k and other 2 boys getting 6.5k. They played out for the trophy and title, which went to Pat with Craig second and Tom who negotiated a very good deal coming third.

Blinds of 10k20k ante 1k. Tom 360k other two with app 280k each.
Tom gets 8k other two get 6.5each not the worst deal in the world...

only 80k to seperate them and they do a deal losing 1,5k ???? time must not have been a factor as they played out for the trophy, what were the initial 1st,2nd,3rd prizes?

It was a great result for Tom. The deal was good for him as it was more than 2nd place would have got. I would not have agreed to deal if I was one of the other two players but I would have taken the deal if in Tom's shoes.

Now I have to win in Sligo or I will never hear the end of it :D

yes he did, what were the other 2 lads thinking, maybe they were afraid of finishing 3rd? :v:

    Too right it will!!

I'm writing up the report at the moment but I have to (god would you listen to me "have to" lol) fly to Monte Carlo in 2 hours.

Thanks for the good wishes, I was really getting pissed off with my performances lately and gave myself a good kick up the butt mentally before the MCM qualifier and my performance there gave me some confidence. The tournie itself was class and the final players were a howl, some of the final table talk was funny as f*ck. The later stages had very good poker being played while the early stages were a bit hmm, fruity!

From after the first hour Fintan was announcing the chip leaders and Nicky, Oscar and I were exchanging the lead over and over. Nicky and I both got knocked back to 25k-ish at the same time and I doubled up only to see Nicky seeth his way straight out the door.
I felt terrible for you man, there was only what? 25-30 ish left? I know how that walk feels and you looked like murder.

Oscar played a blinder too, of course since its Oscar something woefully unlucky had to befall him. In lateish position I decide to take a shot at a pot to cash in my UBER ROCK image, I raise about a quarter of my hefty-enough stack.
Oscar wakes up with JJ and reads the situation nicely and sticks the tank in. SB wakes up with the rockets and I escape leaving Oscar to face the music and he's knocked out 7th.

I haven't played half as many tournies this year as last year, I just can't afford the variance tbh so it was nice to score a big one. My tournament play has changed, changed utterly in the last 2 weeks so lets see if works out!

    DeV.
ps: Yes I probably DID do most of the talking on the final table :)

This is just a guess now, but I would say that the professionals who do deals will think "that's a pretty fair deal", and the those that don't will think "although I personally wouldn't have done a deal, I don't chastise those that don't, and agree that if one was inclined to do deals, then that's a pretty fair one."

Well done Tom, it's a sad day for poker.

    Fair play Tom!

I can safely say we're all jealous as f*** that you're sitting on a plane bound for Monte Carlo with 8k stuffed in your back pocket...

    have a good one!

I'm not sure what Marq means by that (I'm a little jolly right now) but I look at it this way, I felt that on the balance of things (just like any call raise or fold) that if I did this deal 100 times and refused the deal 100 times in this situation I would make more money taking the deal then dropping it.

As it was I felt (and this is no disrepect to Craig) that Pat and I would end up heads up. Now if I do then we end up with two players for 6k and 9k and we do a deal and end up with 7.5k and have to leave 50% of the tip for the dealers each. On 15k at 3% thats 450 or 225 each. Now consider that Mike and I are on 50% of each other (for obvious reasons) and it means that instead of leaving 1/3rd of the tip as opposed to 1/2. Not much but it makes a bit of a difference between the deal that 2 players do and the deal that I'm currently offering them. And I have to get to heads up to secure it.

Now, there is also a trophy and its suggested that I drop some cash and take the trophy but I wasn't interested. I would really LIKE the trophy but I'm not about to pay 500 for it or anything like it. So we played for that (on the blind which on reflection wasnt very polite to the organisers but we were having too much fun at that stage!).

So, I get 7k out of a maximum of 9k, I could get 3k or 6k instead. I like this deal for me. I don't much like it for Pat who also is a canny enough player to know this deal favours me and said as much :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'll negotiate and wangle and finnagle and coax and cajole any deal I think is good for me and I've done it several times before (as Marq well knows! :) ). I'll refuse any deal I don't like
(for me) and I have done so before.

Anyone who outright refuses a deal blind is an idiot in my book. I understand if people have a higher threshhold for deals then I, many people have a higher view of their abilities then I have of mine so maybe their calculations maybe different to mine but offered a equal split with one chip left they'd take it, so somewhere between that and some other chip amount is the break even point for them.

I got home and Amp asked me how I had done and I took the 7k in 50's out of my pocket and showered the sofa with them! :)

Thanks Dave, I'm in Monte Carlo right now and very happy with myself :)
I'll see you, Mike and Oscar in the 1000 game in Jan!
(anyone else got a ticket we havent heard about?)

    DeV.
