or a 3500+ 512 cache. whats the difference with the cpus?

    the cache ;)

in real world terms, the 3700+ will be faster at apps that utilise a larger cache. Encoding is quite cache intensive.

even though its an older chip? its confusing me that the oder core has more cache

The cache isnt as vital in a amd cpu as it is in an intel cpu, the extra cache makes little difference in gaming, but should help i multitasking, may i ask what the cpu is for? and i would reccommend the opteron equivelant which has the san diego core and overclock brilliantly they are also socket 939, the 144 is only 145€ and also has 1mb of cache and you can overclock this to the same speed as a fx 57 on water cooling and 2.6ghz on air cooling

3700Sandy all the way best overclocker and massive performance

its gonna be for gaming mostly. 3700+ saandy is 265 or 2500 venice is 220?
i could use the cash to upgrade from a 7800gt to a gtx

If you are a overclocker the opteron 144 is the one to get and its €120 cheaper and you can easily clock it to the same speed as a 3700 it has the exact same san diego core and 1mb cache THE OPTERONS ARE HANDPICKED SAN DIEGO CORES DESIGNDED FOR WORKSTATIONS THEY ARE THE BEST MONEY CAN BUY,

sorry for the caps but i had to emphasise that they are the same except the opty is cheaper

Agreed my opty 144 is chugging along at 2.6 with out a bother. Take the money you save and spend it on some high speed ram and a good air cooler. Then ou right will be a right killer

agree with the opteron idea but would go for the 146, if you can get a good core they seem to be a slight bit better than the 144

    1 word - OPTERON.

I dont know why people overlook these chips, a 144 is on a level with a 3400+ from what i hear, and easily hits FX-55 speeds, some hitting well over FX-57 speeds.

    Go for a 144/146 and enjoy :)

No. I said overlook not overclock :p

I dont know why people buy the inferior, slower, more expensive XP chips, when they can get the opteron.

Therefore - I dont know why people OVERLOOK these chips :p

Opteron 144 or 146 are fantastic processors for the money. Just google "overclocking opteron 144" and you'll see all the brilliant results!

    a word of caution though:

As far as i can make out all the good overclockers are from the first batches of these chips and these are pretty much selling/sold out. Most places are out of stock at the moment and there is no guarantee that when new stock comes in they will be as good overclockers. So unless you can get the stepping info before ordering you may be taking a gamble.

It could pay off big though :D
