When my 2nd 20gig hard drive was currupted (Not formated correctly) my computer used to hang at "Windows is starting up" for 1 or 2 minutes, I would then be given a I/O error if I try to explore the hard drive, maybe it could be related to a currupt hard disk :(

Did you set it up yourself?
How long have you been running it?

Sounds like a seriously messed up windows install to me.

Sounds like you have big problems somewhere in the system..

    Download and run:
    memtest - http://www.memtest86.com/
    Ewido - www.ewido.net
    spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
    adaware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
    Kaspersky online scan (i.e only) - http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

    Do them for a start.

Firefox seems to take ages to start up on any PC i've ever seen, for the first load. Nice and fast after that.
