I ask this question because i seem to go through them like a kid goes through candy!

i had a 256 EXTREmemory one which just packed in with all my back up files on it. So i move onto some chinese brand which now has my files in all this gobbildy gook. Even in my computer where it should say E: says some crazy stuff. Ive tried to attach it, is this virus or just corrupt data?

Begs the question how reliable are these things?

    Can my data be retrieved?

well i've had one (twinmos) and it done me three years, in that three years it had been through the wash, dropped from the top of a three story house (from inside) and still worked perfectly.

that said i broke it about two weeks ago when i was reinstalling xp on my brothers laptop, i had it in the usb port and i then turned over the laptop to read the cd key and i bent the connecter so much it snapped off.

so the guys are very tough, but i'd buy a reputable brand name.

I have a san disk 512 for months now, and it hasn't had a cap on it for a very long time, is quite scracthed, lives in my sweaty pockets, and is still going flawlessly

Just a question but do you bother to stop it before removing it or do you just yank it out?

A mix of both really...and sometimes when i go to stop it it would say it cant...

ya rekcon that could be the problem?

Well it looks like corruption in your screen shot, my experience is that often that will occur if you pull out the drive as something is writing/accessing it.

hmm rings a bell, i did yank it there whil it was saving a doc..

that would **** the rest of the data up?

    More than likely yes.
