    Hello everyone,

I've just forked out on a nice new Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB SATA 16MB 7200RPM NCQ Hard Drive but am now faced with a massive problem. My computer is a couple of years old and hence the mainboard only has an IDE connector but I need to have a SATA connector on my mainboard in order to connect my new harddrive.

Is there anyway around this or am I totally f***ed?

    Any help greatly appreciated!

put it into one of your free pci slots (just below the graphics card), connect your hd to it and your psu to your hd, load the drivers and thats it

Right Angel sorry to bother you again but if your out there..........

I've just received my SATA TX4 300 Controller today & eagerly went about the business of setting it up.

Now for some reason my pc recognised the new hardware alright "Mass Storage Controller" but can't seem to find the drivers (even though I have the CD ROM in and direct the set-up wizard to it's correct path, etc). When I go into System-Hardware-Device Manager-Other Devices has a yellow question mark beside it & upon double-clicking that Mass Storage Controller has also a big yellow question mark beside it with an exclamation mark also!

From looking at the installation manual which came with the card I have followed everything to the word but the following has thrown me:

Step 3. "Attach your system case's 2 or 4 pin LED cable to the LED connector on the SATA300 card. Make sure that pin 1 on the connector is aligned with pin 1 of the cable.

I looked at the LED connector on the card but have no LED cable on my system to fit it! (At least I don't think so)!! Could this be the cause of my problem? Is there anything I can do?

Once again your help greatly appreciated. And No, you most certainly ARE NOT on my ignore list, sorry if I didn't reply to your posts earlier. I am totally desperate to install my new hard-drive as I'm in an emergency situation here at the moment!

There's a little LED cable coming from your case

It'll probably be plugged into your Motherboard so have a look for it.

It's not that important since all it does is flash when your hard drive is in use (it's the little flashing LED that'll light up when you're loading something or whatever)

aye the led cable goes into the same place on the motherboard as the power switch and power led, so just take it out of there and plug it into the card, as for drivers, dont bother with the found new hardware wizard, cancel that and install the drivers from the cd, restart your computer and it should work

TBH you must have realised that you'd have to open the case to put the drive in, so worth doing it before you get the drive, same would go for memory upgrades. Have a quick look see before you buy.

Or plan B would be to get an IDE USB external enclosure and put the drive in it. Thought someone posted one for €29.99 on bargin alerts a while back
