Doreena Allen on the late late

Doreena(sp?) Allen has just been on the late late there and I was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this. I was very annoyed that a women who stands by a convicted child pornography trafficker had the nerve to get on tele and talk about her new cookery book. Most of the important points were avoided or quickly glossed over in an attempt to make it seem she was on to discuss serious issues when really it was just a shameless attempt at publicity. I was especially annoyed at how Pat kenny, once again revealing his ineptitude as a tv presenter, referred to the incident at one stage as "this whole hoo-haa". I wonder if he would describe the situation as a hoo-haa if his child had been depicted in any of the photos? Am I overreacting what are peoples thoughts on this?

    Agree a typical Kenny clanger.

But Plank needs guests and she's got a book to plug...

Pat the Plank is an arsehole, simple as. probably great friends with Darina hence her being on the national air waves pimping a book but avoiding the questions about the "whole hoo-haa"

jesus, cant believe he called it that. idiot

I thought more people would be outraged at his remark about Brian Kennedy being "very used to whips and leather" :D

I don't think its wrong she's on the box. Why should it be? It's her decision to stay loyal to her husband and she must have a very good reason to, but it's something she has obviously kept seperate from her cookery. I'm definitely not agreeing with what her husband did, but I don't think she should be banned from promoting her book on tv as a result.

Alan Partridge lives on then, how can someone who's often so good and seamless on radio be so bloody bad under the glare of the lights?

Will he ever lean back in his chair and kick his shoes off (metaphoricaly speaking!)?

    Mike.

twas interesting the way Lenny Henry didn't shake his hand but went out to the audience instead . It was obvious for the preceding 2-3 minutes that PK was trying to shut him up - loads of hmms and little coughs..

I don`t think its bad that shes on, why should she be punished for what her husband did.

Its the fact that she stuck by him that annoys people.

It must have been hard for her to stick with him though. Such a betrayal.
I'd say the cookery schools aren't doing that well at all, thats why she has to bring out a book...

No, you're not overreacting to it, I felt the same way when I was watching it, as did another who was watching it. Couldn't believe the hoo-haa comment, and I don't think he'll get away with that without taking some flak.

Disappointed in Pat, he normally doesn't shy away from the probing questions. The only explanation I can come up with is that he is a personal friend of Doreena? Or maybe he doesn't think the child porn industry and sexual abuse of children is a serious issue?

We're not saying she shouldn't be on, but when she's on, she should be asked some questions in regard to the "whole whoo haa" that was her husband's conviction for possession of child pornography, and her public decision to stand by him regardless.

How has it been? Has Pat Kenny interviewed her on the Late Late before about it?

Tabloids had a feast way back when.
I think that some comments made about her are a little unfair though. Her professional life is seperate from her husbands private life.

    PK though. What a plank.

Exactly the tabloids had a feast and we all know what use they are..
The fact is it was her first tv apperance since the incident and Pk barely scratched the surface. And no I do not believe she should be punished for what her husband did but to stand by him and support him and to be so open about it going on national television while at the same time promoting her book is what erks me and many others off.

She should not have been given the airtime IMHO.

On the day that was in it RTE should have opened the chequebook and had Keano on the show.
Now that would have been a coup. That would have been real TV.

Her daughter was on Tubridy Tonight a few week back, same situation really. Mainly plugging her new show and avoiding questions about "the whole hoo-haa"

It's not really Darina's fault though is it? As you just said she has a daughter and maybe she was thinking of her when she decided to stick with her husband? Or maybe, just maybe, she still loves him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭Teller

She seemed a bit looh lah to me. Constantly smiling...does someone have a drink problem? :D

Ah look she chose to stand by him, her decision. It makes me angry that she maks him out to be a victim but they're the ones that have to live with it. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors, she may not be as gracious as she appears to be.

Yes, but should Pat Kenny not ask his guests questions that have been covered by different media? Not much point in interviewing guests if you cant ask them any questions they have answered before to someone else.

    You mean her daughter-in-law.

I didn't see the show, but I thought the story had been changed some time ago when it was suggested that her husband had actually taken the rap for their son.

(mother told me about the revelations which were aired on some radio show, will look for a link)

First off her name is Darina, not Doreena

Second off I can't stand the sight o her tbh! Or the sound of her, married in to money and is now worse than them!

Third, her daughter in law is just as snooty and crap on telly, but way more do-able!

Whether she stayed or left hubby was her decision, at least the Gardai were called on this one and it wasn't just swept away. The courts etc. have done their bit and these people are picking up the bits, I'm sure it hurt them personally and finacially. Would you go on the telly if it was your Father-In Law?

They are local enough and I know people friendly enough with them who have hinted the son was at fault and had previous, so Daddy took the Rap to avoid jail time for junior. If tha Allens are reading this they can PM me and I can tell them who I know.

The worst faux pas (F**k U*) was Kennys the way he dismissed the whole thing as of little importance, of course it is important! You don't need to grill the woman but shying away is worse in my opinion.

maybe its local gossip I heard so. It would make some sense with regard to why they haven't been alienated by the community down there, it seems they know more about the situation than the tabloid media has been espousing.
    *disclaimer-all supposition

I don't watch Pat Kenny on Friday nights... thank god!!!... but if i definatly agree that it was a bad move bringing her onto the show and acting as if nothing had happened!!...
.... and it was a feckin disgrace that Pat referred to it as the hoo-haa!!

Imagine if there was a bishop who came on the Pat Kenny show talking about some book he had written... and imagine that this same Bishop been one of the people who had known about the priests raping kids and hadn't said anything about it...
.... imagine if Pat Kenny refferred to this as "the big hoo-haa"....people would go fricken mental!... Anyway I think its a disgrace that she is still with her husband... how could she still love him knowing that he perves on innocent little kids??... I wonder if they have any kids of their own??

I wonder did he abuse his own kids! How could he suddenly be interested in children now, what is he, nearly 60. If so did she sweep that under the carpet too? As a mother it was the first thing that entered my head.
The worse thing about it all was that he did not go to jail. I would starve instead of eat her bloody food now.
