Hello guys, i cant get DVI to work on my new monitor= dell 2405fpw. When i use the dvi cable the monitor doesnt display a picture, my card obviously supports it x800xtpe DVI. Monitor seems to stay in sleep mode, ie: lights on the front are orange and not green. Anyone having this problem please help:(

could be a problem with the res being too high, try using the analogue and lowering your resolution and refresh rate and then plug it into the dvi port, if that doesn't work make sure you have the latest drivers for your monitor and gfx card

Are you sure you have DVI as the selected input source, it should have a little glowing "2" at the base of the monitor. If not press the left-most button on the controls until it is selected.

Thanks guys, yes i have set it to number 2 at the bottom i have to do it manually. Then the screen goes black and then front lights change from green to orange, like sleep mode?;)

It's a while since I've used ATI drivers, but is there an "Enable DVI Output" place anywhere on the advanced tab?
Or try rebooting with DVI selected?

You dont have the DVI connected trhu a DVI-VGA converter into a VGA port on the back of your GFX card by any chance? Long shot, but just checking.

Do you know for certain that your video card's DVI port is working properly?

I got a 9700Pro a few years ago which worked fine using a DVI to VGA adaptor, but whenI plugged in DVI to DVI cable it didn''t work, card was faulty.

Can you check against another monitor with DVi which you know works?

I've never had such problems with my 2405 and I mostly use it with the DVI connection - short of what the guys here already suggested (make sure the DVI output on your graphics card is working, rule out the cable itself, etc), the only other thing I'd suggest is that you connect a device to the VGA input (which is the 1st choice out of the 5 on the monitor) and let this bring the display fully on, then switch to the DVI. Obviously, you'll need another PC for this, but maybe a mate can help you out - you don't need the PC in question to be outputting 1920 x 1200 via the VGA.

By the way, even if there was a problem with your resolution or drivers, you should still see your BIOS POST screens before Windows loads, as soon as you power up the PC - if you're not seeing this, it's more than likely that a signal is not actually getting to the monitor. Hope that helps - the 2405 is an absolute joy to use :D .
