Well i've finally made up my mind that I am going to get the 360, but since I havn't prebooked it, is there any chance that i'll get my hands on one this side of christmas?

On a side note, i'm going to need a good HDTV for it aswell, has anyone got some recommendations on that?

    Thanks.

Yep.. the shops were told long ago to stop taking pre-orders for the X-Box 360.

I got my pre-order in fairly late.. about 2 months ago... and I don't fancy my chances too much... so I don't think you'll have much luck on the day...

Bugger, was hoping somewhere like xtravision might have one or two spares floating around. Ah well, looks like ill just buy myself a t.v instead.

Really? Thats interesting, might have to get up early December 2nd to check that out. Or pop into a 24 hour tesco at 00:01 on the 2nd.

The only place I reckon you may have luck with could be Argos, not sure if they are to have any in stock but from what I can remember of the PS2 launch, there were no preorders permitted, first come first served, so get on to their customer service or something and find out.

Some places will sell the pre-books that haven't been collected within a few days so ask places like xtravision if they have any stock like that.

    Whats this about a HDTV?

Gota call from Game today asking me what games I wanted with the XBOX when it arrives. Also they said they are only going to hold the console for 4 days. So much for actually booking the thing if they barely bother hold it for ya.

In that case its Tesco and Argos on the 2nd and Game on the 6th, ideally would like to get it before xmas so I can snag a HDTV in january sales.

Imho... if you care enough to prebook the console, you'll be up there on day 1 for it.

I wouldnt hold out much hope for one unless your at the top of the queue seeing as US stores seem to have very low stock.

But rested assured, your xbox 360 will have gone to a good home and get a lot of use:

ppl who prebooked after august 17th in some big UK game stores wont even be getting them

harvey norman will have the lower package available but can you upgrade to the wireless controller and hard drive?
also tesco in jervis said they were getting xboxes but not the 360.!?! anyone else any updates on this?

Basically if you haven't pre ordered your chances are VERY slim. I heard a rumour that there will only be 1 batch before xmas and that is the launch batch. Not 100% sure how accurate this is. My aunt managed to find a supermarket in Finland that had only had 3 preordered and she got to be number 4 on the list today. Search the most unlikely places. Also Dixons etc. do them too and they don't seem to have had too many preorders. I was in Birmingham today looking for one for my cousin and Dixons only had 37 but they weren't taking any more preorders. Dedicated game shops = not a chance. Amazon seem to be still taking pre orders. Ebay is selling them for $1,000+ a pop.

Look in the latest Tesco Christmas brochure, the Xbox 360 is clear for all to see, with a dirty great big banner saying the 2nd of December. I used to work in Tesco's part time man, do you really think the 16 year old girls behind the customer service desk even know what an Xbox is?! lol

Number busy ... I wonder how many people are trying to ring them now :D

    Hi all,

Just to let you know that some stores WILL have Xbox 360's for the launch excluding pre orders. Dont expect them to last too long though.......

If you plan on getting one from Virgin and HAVE NOT pre ordered, you will not be sold one with anything less that THREE games. And with games Priced ¬69.99 - ¬74.99, that kind of sucks

Trying to think of all the places that might be getting them in without taking pre orders. So far i've come up with these:

    Power City
    Argos
    Tesco

Might just try ringing virgin tomorrow and see if thats true Noobsaibot, I certainly wouldnt mind buying three games with it - I mean if I was buying the console i'd probably get at least two games with it, if buying a third can get me a console on the 2nd then i'll do it.

Well We (Virgin Dundrum) are getting the most out of all the Virgins with a grand total of 14 INCLUDING Pre Orders :(
Tesco would be a pretty sound bet.
Oh, and i have been ASSURED by both head office and the MS rep that there WILL be more deliveries before Christmas.
Take that with a pinch of salt but even if it's true, these will be TINY deliveries.

booked mine in Smyth's in the M1 retail park about, 5-7 weeks ago, should be fine :) apprently, the smyths in airside has only 64 on order (less then 70 anyway) so i dont think you'll be playing anything on a shinny new 360 till after xmas! :o

    Who told you that?

I work in the Dundalk branch of Harvey Norman. We'll be selling both the "Core" and "Pro" packages - but they'll be extremely limited in numbers and I expect them to be gone completely within a couple of days of coming in.

In fairness, you are "sort of" right in that it looks like we won't be able to sell any (more) of the Pro package as the amount that we've pre-sold looks like being all we'll get this side of Christmas (unless the second delivery we're promised before Christmas materialises... which I can't see happening)
but can you upgrade to the wireless controller and hard drive?

If by "upgrade", you mean "trade in the wired controller you get in the box and get a wireless one for an extra few quid" ... no, not that I know of.

You can buy a wireless controller and hard drive seperately though.

lol, "I've come up with these", I was the first one to mention Tesco and someone else suggested Argos to ya! :D, the 3G shop in Carlow never has ANY customers, that might be another one to add to your list!

Argos is only selling bundles, so they're forcing you to buy a game with the console when you get it.

With the help of some boardsters of course ;)

I have no problem with that as long as they have the wireless one.

if you can only get your hands on a core, it wil cost €200 + to buy the hdd seprae, headset, wireless contrller, etc... so if you want the proper €410 package, your better of waiting till whenever it arrives, as you'll rip yourself off if you buy core, and "upgrade" it.:v:
