Depends on what you mean by cheap...

    9 euro in Peats:

Be careful though ... check to see if your DVI output is a DVI-I, i.e. it has both digital and analogue signals on it. All the el-cheapo "converter" above is doing is routing the bit of the DVI-I connector that carries the analogue signal to the appropriate VGA connector pins, hence the low price. If your DVI output is DVI-D, i.e. digital only, then you need a much more complex, and therefore expensive D/A converter (like this one http://www.networktechinc.com/dvi-vga.html for example).

Well, there's a fair bit of electronics involved in converting a DVI-D signal to analogue VGA, whereas that other thing was effectively just a very short cable, that's why.

If you have a DVI capable video card then just get a DVI capable monitor, simple. The difference in price won't be $282 I can assure you, and the difference in quality is well worth it.

^^ Yup totally right,I got a loan of the DVI converter posted above and there was no way it was going to go into my DVI connection, there seems to be a horizontal bar that blocks it going in.If you notice the OP pic you will see a little bar going different direction to rest but there are four pins around that bar on converter that will not let you plug it in.
