The Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern has announced a new volunteer corp which would be funded by the State to volunteer abroad. It could mean a great one stop shop for volunteers wanting to go abroad and give added publicity to the whole idea of volunteering abroad.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, has announced the establishment of a permanent volunteer corps to harness what he says is the powerful volunteer spirit that exists across Ireland.
...Mr Ahern says the volunteer corps would harness the skills of Irish workers across the public and private sectors.

He also says it would promote partnerships between Irish companies and state agencies with their counterparts in the developing world.

The new corps would have a presence on the high street where the public could access information on volunteering opportunities.
Maybe there should be something similar for volunteering at home, any thoughts?.

Isn't that just a copy of America's Peace Corp?
