    Rofl.

Yeah, I definitely think B5 would make for a far more interesting MMORPG than Star trek. I mean, seriously, can you imagine playing an MMORPG for 8+ hours a day where you wonder around and try to negotiate peaceful relations with hostile aliens. Or would you rather zoom around blowing shít up? :D

YES! I hope this actually get's made into a game, though I'd prefer a proper B5 space sim. The freeware ones just aren't the same as a commercial game.

A Star Trek MMORPG would be worthwile only if it were possible to maim & brutally dismember Wesley Crusher.

Well a more fair comparison would be starfury vrs Peregrine fighter tbh shuttle pod's are only in system/ship to planet transport and not combat ships anyway every one (tm) knows star trek technology is better than Babylon 5 i mean compeer ugly primitive omega class ships to a sovereign class no contest :o

On the subject of space base mmorpg i think eve online is the best around and i don’t think that will change soon

bab5 mmo has been on the cards for ages but theres just so much humming and hawing.

i think JMS has heard about ST:O and wants in on the action as there are a LOT of untold stories in the bab universe hes itching to get made.

Anyone ever see Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning? It's basically the whole Star Trek vs. Babylon 5 made into a movie.

An MMO that involves negotiating peaceful releations by making love to the beautiful alien princess could be interesting.

Think you would need Lister's virtual reality machine to make that good.

Was it just me or was the whole firing weapons by acting a total retard in some VR chamber the most embarrassing thing ever to have been seen on a sci fi show?

THe defiant was a shuttlepod and an attaak ship.

Imo star trek kicks a$$ here. Sisco (with his bald head and "beard") would win in any battle.

I really should stop dragging this thread off topic.....
Defiant is NOT a shuttle pod it is a defiant class escort or destroyer it is very large
    Length: 170.68 m4
    Beam: 134.11 m4
    Height: 30.1 m4
    Decks: 4
And if you believe the star trek ds9 tech manual it weights around 400,000 tons it’s very much a starship in its own right. Shuttle pods on the other hand are those small 1-2 man ships seen in the early years of TNG.

Mind you the defiant was ment to have been an uprated runabout shuttle before the powers that be decided to make a fully fleged ship for the show.

A super star destroyer would totally own any b5 or star trek ships.

once agin off topic but here goes

whitestar would destroy the defiant (+ there were hundreds of whitestars)

& you have never watched b5 so you cant talk

    On topic

it would be nice to see how this game would work
you have raiders, earth force, the league of non-aligned worlds & various other races
would it be set in the 5 year arc before
the ancients went beyond the rim
? or after in the crusade timeline?

either way its one that im going to be looking at & waiting for

If fairness you cant say a defiant would lose or that there's not hundreds of them because there’s no way to tell either way.....Unless you can compeer firepower against real life objects which i don’t think we can

Mind you the minbari blackstar was taken out by 2 low yield nukes so that doesn’t point to great resistance.

    On topic

Er i wonder can you be a telepath

Jesus and I thought I was a nerd. B5 was the biggest load of **** with the worst cg i'v seen in a sci fi show. Flame away.

who gives a flying fook what quality the CG was, for the most part B5 was made on a shoestring. the original graphics were done on amiga 1200's with GFX box attachments.

The series is fantastic though and deserves a new series/film of high quality more than the likes of star trek.

if the kind of money that went into BSG were to be put towards B5 then it truely would be a sight to see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,136 ✭✭✭Pugsley

Yea the CGI in B5 was absolute dung, the budget was awful, but it never stopped it having the best charecters and story line in any series, ever. It's not much of a show to watch now and again, but it makes for a brilliant marathon show, I could sit down and watch series 3 and 4 back to back.

i though the cgi was some of the best stuff i had ever seen, far exceeded startreks model work at the time (apart from the cg1 humans, they always looked pooey)

time to end the flayvon debate right here

Star Trek has Main Deflector Dishes, they win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

startrek also had copy and paste episodes, cardboard characters, overused technobabble.

Dont get me wrong i like trek for the simple reason you can watch any episode and enjoy it. But it falls short by a long mile in the overlying story department.

Bablyon 5 had no real reliance on technobabble, flashy effects and it had a solid cast. The only thing i have against it is there are very few episodes that can be watched as a once off. But i am willing to sit through an entire series as a marathon viewing purely for the story arc which is superb. (ask my flatmates i did it for series 1-5 mmmmmm dvd boxed edition)

all well and good but main deflector dishes cant be beaten, i mean they do everything. "captain, theres the borg" "use the main deflector dish", "captain, the holograms have come to life and are taking over the ship!" "use the main deflector dish"

cant be beaten.... its even better then the force

Got to agree the cgi in b5 was great and frankly much better than star treks efforts at the time untill Ds9 third season they also had better race development Earth/narn haveing to buy/steal technology from the centarie (sp?) in order to catch up stuff like that .....

    Was a good show.

IIRC the B5 CGI was done with Amigas with video toaster's

the pilot was done using amiga tech afaik but it got a hell of a lot better, very quickly see death walker or Signs and Portents in the first series
