I trialled Blueface (Freedom Basic/Linksys RT31) for a couple of weeks and there's only one snag that's preventing me from signing up. Caller ID doesn't work with my BT Paragon 500 handset. It works fine when connected to the Eircom line but fails to display, i.e. remains blank, when connected to the ATA. Feargal and Aaron came to the conclusion that it's an incompatibility with the BT handset. Anyone here know any different?

That's odd! Were you on one of the subscription packages?

What was the problem, you couldn't see people's numbers or they couldn't see yours?

    Freedom Basic package.

The problem was that incoming calls displayed nothing. If I switched to a different handset with Caller Id display it worked fine. But the BT Paragon's screen remained blank. A pity, 'cause it's a nice phone.

    Very unfortunate,
I guess I know not to get that phone when I'm buying a new one ;)

What options does the Linksys RT31 have for setting the Caller ID standard it uses with the phone? It may be possible to change it to one the phone likes better.

Also perfect with a Motorla ME4052. (via Linksys PAP2 via wrt54g)

could be an earthing problem, could be no polarity reversal before the first ring, or could be the ring voltage is too low. have a look at:

That I don't know. The Linksys is back with Blueface.

Beyond me, I must confess. However I've bookmarked the above URLs for future reference. Thanks.

I found before that if you used the UK standard (ETSI FSK with PR) or Bellcore the US standard, they tend to work with most phones. As your phone is a BT one, try the UK standard first.

I'm using a sipura ATA which prety much the same hardware as the linksys stuff (running slightly different firmware).

Thanks, Willie. But I know of no way of changing the CID standard. I checked with another Linksys RT31 user and there is no setting to change it - only CID on/off.

I have just looked at the data sheet for the RT31 and it claims to supports a few different kinds of CID (FSK, DTMF etc) so there seems to be an option burried somewhere in there.

But reading the manual online, as you found it doesn't cover it at all.

You might want to try this page on the Linksys models:

http://192.168.1.1/Voice_adminPage.htm (obviously replacing the IP address as reqd.)

On the "Regional" page there are 8 options for "Caller ID Method". The default is "Bellcore(N.Amer,China)" and there is an option for "ETSI FSK With PR(UK)".

Hello there, Aaron. If that's the case, and I don't doubt you, it looks like I'll be doing business with you again soon.
