    Hey,

I was wondering if anybody could help me with this. I bought an Ipod Mini. I installed itunes onto my laptop, sucessfully. Everything worked perfectly.

I just bought a new dell 9100 desktop. I installed Itunes, but for some reason, when I hook up my ipod mini my computer detects new hardware and opens up the hardware install wizzard. I put the cd in, but that option doesnt work, infact I have tried every option available, but still cannot get my ipod working on my new computer.

I think it needs to install drivers for the mini, but these should be contained on the cd. The apple website is no use.

    or

It has something to do with the plug and play.

I would be really greatfull if somebody could explain what is wrong.

    Thanks,

    Raz

you also need to install the ipod setup disk that came with your ipod, itunes does not have everything you need as the downlaod is also tailored for those who have no ipod and jsut want to listen on their pc

The gray cd that came with the ipod....I did install the cd, but no luck. Infact I have installed it and removed it a couple of times. I also downloaded the latest installer from the apple website. Still no luck.

Go to your control panel and Administrative Tools

Scroll down to disk management. Does the iPod show up in that?

When I plug in my ipod my new computer it has been pluged in. Then the wizzard detects new hardware.

When I install the cd that came with the ipod It says to connect the ipod to see if it needs to be formatted, but it isnt detecting that the ipod is there. The only option that works in connect ipod later.

The hardware wizzard is looking for drivers, which should be on the cd (and prob are) but if i explore the cd I cant dind them.

I got the ipod setup laucher from the apple website. But that didnt seem to do anything.

I have to recharge the bloody thing again, but from memory, yes it does show up in the hardware devices, but yellow, beside the IEEE1394 controler (which is also yellow).

I didnt mention, I am doing all of this through the usb. I have tried all 7.

I had a similar problem a while ago with it not showing up as a device at all. What you could try is plugging it into the laptop, opening iTunes

Edit>Preferences>iPod, tick the Enable Use as a Disk Drive option.

Now manually stop the iPod (Stop hardware icon beside your clock) and plug it into your desktop. Does it appear as a disk drive?

I use my iPod on two desktops in my house and when I first got it I had to check something in iTunes that enabled it to be used with two different iTunes libraries, have a gander around the iTunes preferences to see if there's a mention (my iPod's all the way downstairs so I can't check the options myself)

I went into the amin tools. No the ipod isnt there.

    What is there:

    Comp services
    comp management
    data sources
    event viewer
    microsoft framework 1.1 config
    microsoft framework 1.1 wizards
    performance
    services.

    any help?

Shouldn't be a problem while it's plugged in.

ok. I did this. Didnt work. I uninstalled all the ipod gear, and reinstalled it. I followed the instruction. When I hook up the ipod the hardware wizard shows up.
