Problem logging into AIB online banking

Apologies if this is not the most approriate board, but the income tax return deadline is midnight and I'm a little frustrated with this issue.

On AIB site, I put in the Registration Number and the requested numbers from my PAC code, but on clicking the 'step 2' button give me the following error...

"You have been logged out of AIB Internet Banking as use of the browser Back button is not supported. To log in again, please enter your details below."

The guy in the AIB 24-hour phone centre said ' Oh yea, that's a common problem alright, it's just a simple browser setting and if you call our technical department at 9AM, they'll help you out'

I can't see the taxman accepting that one as a late payment excuse, so does anyone know what might be causing this.

I'm using IE6 have cleared every cache, all SSL reqs etc are enabled, I have shutdown my anti-spyware utility, added IE and port 80 to my exceptions list in the firewall and I still keep getting the error.

Make sure you have 128bit encryption enabled.

Thanks for the replies. Don't suppose any of you Firefox users will pay my tax for me?:)

How do I ensure I'm using 128-bit encryption?

Dowloaded Firefox and got straight in. There's a lesson there somewhere...now I wonder is IE just more\too secure.

    LOL!

The whole revenue online thing is great, but I've had many problems with it so far, especially when moving my details from an Mac os9 system to an osX system. I've found the people in the revenue pretty helpful with problems.

em i.e just more/too secure? (Trys very hard not to laugh) in a word no. For use as an update utility it's ok but as a web browser as it currently stands it has a lot of problems. Mainly due to Active - x components.

Whilst Firefox is not without it's problems, no browser is really, less damage can be caused due to how it runs. I.E. though requires a lot more attention to maintain a healthy system and keep the browser free of malware/spyware. Theres less likely hood of this happening with Firefox.

But on your original topic - aib is allways hit and miss I've found. I've had the same happen to me on both browsers, I just leave it for a while and then it's ok. Must be peak times on the server I would say timing you out- 128bit encryption is switched on generally by default in i.e. anyway

But for a reasonably more secure and faster internet browser you were right to change or to Opera (But that has adds embedded till you pay a licence fee - yuk :( lol)

    :)

Yes, the uptime of AIB24 is not great

    Not any more :D

Full version (8.5) without ads is now free. I have now switched over completely to Opera and I am one happy camper

My browser usage history: Netscape and then as soon as IE2 was available I switched. Used IE for 10 years

Then went through every single release 0.x and 1.x including DPA and DPB until I finally made the move to Opera about a month ago

I think AIB only recommend IE for their site which means they don't support other browsers.
