    Hi,
I upgraded my SONY DVD burner for a DVD - to a DVD +- and Dual layer.
I purchased a set of 5 double sided DVD;s from Maplin at weekend. They were a brand called EMTEC. Anyway, when I try and format the DVD it sees it as a CDR, and formats 600mb, and then when i try and browse it, it gives an error. I have updated to the latest firm ware. What could the problem be?
It burns + and - DVD 4.7's perfectly.....

    Is it software?
    Is it a firmware issue?
    Is it a media Issue.

does this ring any bells with anyone.

    Cheers

What burning software you using? Windows wont recognise a writeable DVD from a CDR, so you will need a program like nero. Even the version of Easy CD Creator (5, i think) which came with my parents Dell 3 years ago, which has options to burn DVDs, wont work, because the new DVD burner i got for the Dell was released after the programs final patch (rubbish, i know).

So yeah, unless you got software with the burner which doesnt work, i reckon the problem is as easy as that.

I never actually considered the software. Ill get latest version of NERO, and give it a go. Many thanks.
