Gas fire going out

Hey folks - love this forum.

I've a gas fire in the house I've been in just over a year. Last winter it worked fine with no problems. However the few times I've tries to light it this year - it's gone out within a minute or two.

The gas seems to come out fine first (lit manually with a lighter) but when it extinguishes there doesn't seem to be any gas coming out. Relight it and it does the same trick - i.e. stays lit for a short time.

Any thoughts? A blockage developed maybe?

    CHEERS!

Get the thermocouple replaced, this is not a DIY job.

And do not use the fire, in fact turn off the supply to it (should be a tap beside the fireplace)
You dont want it going out but still some gas escaping.

    Great thanks guys.

    That's what I needed - a definitive answer.

Is this a plumber/heating guy or a Bord Gais issue? Who to call?
Hopefully the first as there's a few issues I want a plumber to look at...

    Cheers again.

You need a gas man, Bord Gais have people they reccommend and are not much more expensive in my experience.
If you go the Golden Pages route be sure of who you are getting.
Gas is not stuff you want a half assed cheapo job done on.

A good plumber will do. Bord Gais agents will not touch anything else.
