MMDS analogue - PSU to antenna

    Hi Guys,
I got some questions regarding MMDS analogue:

    I understand the antenna/downconverter requires
    a power supply.
Can someone tell me how this is fed up to the antenna ?
Is it coupled on the co-ax or is it a separte feed ?
What voltage does it require ?

I guess Analogue is been phased out these days.
Any idea how long before it will be switched off ?
What kinda STB's are in use with the analogue ?
Just Jerrold/GI or is there anyother type ?

    Thanks,
    Ray.

All the stb's are jerrold as far as I am aware.
The 24v is coupled with the co-ax
there is a silver box on the back of the stb that the psu and ariel plug into(which is what normally breaks on these boxes)
voltage is 24v (if I rem correctly)
    dunno about the other stuff.

Yes, the antennae does need a power supply - on most analogue setups, it is through the use of a black box (or downconverter) which sends 24v (IIRC) up the outside of the cable and then the signal down through the inner cable (it's very similar to satellite). Basically it's:
    ANTENNAE co-ax > Downconverter > STB.

As for when analogue will be turned off, well who knows! NTL seems to have gone fully digital with the MMDS network, but there are reports that parts of the chorus MMDS haven't even begun the upgrade to digital signals yet. I think MMDS mainly used the black Pace "CryptoVision" boxes.

Thanks for the replies guys... most helpful..
Can anyone tell me is the analogue and digital downconverter,
on those antennas the same ?

I'm after one of these PSU/coupler boxes if anyone out there has one spare.

    Cheers,
    Ray.

    They are easy to make.

Though I thought the voltage was 12V.

Get a 2 way Cable TV splitter and hack open the back.

    Remove insides.

Solder 470pF ro 1nF capacitor between IN and one OUt. As many turns of wire on the ferrite bead you removed and stiff 6 turns 1/8" (3mm) "air core" coil. Solder these in series from input to the other output.

The first out goes to receiver and the second to the PSU.

Only reception of "clear" channels is legal. Any decoding of encrypted channels is illegal and you can be charged with theft /piracy.

Analog MMDS is rubbish signal. This is not worth the effort.

Nice one.. Thanks for that !

According to here here, the voltage is 20V

    ? I guess this is a 470pF & 1nF in parallel ?

Any URL that explains this further ?

    Thanks,
    Ray.
