ENGL Powerball, Savage 120, SE EL34 and a Peavy 5150 II, aswell as another powerball that's not pictured. 5 high gain amp heads right there! Even John Petrucci doesn't use that many! Freakin' madness that anyone would need that much.:v:

Who wants to kill him amd divide up the amps between us? Dibs on a Powerball! :D

Yes, that's quite a nice set up. Needs a nice clean amp though. And some effects.

    and a guitar.

You know, not everyone needs effects... or seemingly a guitar. :v:

Distortion's an effect. Or is it? Is there a spoon? Where did the white rabbit go?

One day I'll have a gargantuan rig so all-encompassing in it's lordship and grandeur that I too will need a Putno to lug it all in. :)

No, isn't an effect anything that uses a delay to change your sound like flanger, reverb and so on and anything that changes your signal's characteristics (can't think of proper terms) like EQ a modulation? And then distortion is simply amplification of the signal (not necessarily the volume)?

Right, well here's something to make Feylya sick:

Yeah! How would you ever get time to play the guitar with all those switches and knobs to play with ??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

I can see just one thing in there that I could ever see myself using, and that's the Rocktron Hush.

    What does that do?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭Rustar

    What does that do?

It's a very, very fancy ac conditioner/surge protector....prevents brown-outs and dropouts in your equipment if you don't have good current from the wall, and also prevents your equipment from getting blown up by voltage spikes! Almost a necessity if your band's pushing 3-4000 watts and you have big poweramps hooked up to the board.

Ah, I get ya. See? I'm clueless about racks.

If I was building a rack, it would probably consist of this, this and this. I like that setup, it would be very practical indeed. ;)

I would call distortion created by the amp at high volumes 'overdrive' (tho that might be wrong) and distortion created by a device at input level an effect. So distortion can be both a floor wax AND a dessert topping!

Man, the amount of quality gear that kid has is just perverse. And i bet you that after that magnificent photo op he played Enter Sandman to show off his amazing talent. Son of a bitch. Who is he anyways, just a random?

Oh, KH, i have to say you're the spit of Hetfield in that Midleton pic! :D

it can be used for heavy start stop playing... nothing would be wrong with that!

To be entirely fair, I think that if you've got an insane rig like that, where you'd probably be gigging, you might want to still play it at home at less than concert venue volumes, so that's where the hotplate would come in, even if he was only using a single 4x12 at a time, I'd say that kind of rig pushes some serious air.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Does Petrucci use his mega rig at home?

Not entirely, but I've seen footage of him practicing, and he uses 2 Roadkings into 2 4x12s.
    Didn't see any hotplate though.

Damned if I'm not sick with envy right now.

    Five ENGLS and a Bogner!?
    Who actually needs that?

A band needs that but it's too much power for one man/woman.

EDIT: I must say that Misfits sticker looks dead cool on the guitar.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Yeah, but you know I'm just jealous. I've been aiming for an ENGL Fireball & 2x12 for a while now, and the GAS is bad.
