Good Moisturiser?

Can anyone recommend a good moisturiser for someone who's skin is pratically dust at the best of times?
I've been trying coco butter but makes it very greasy and doesn't absorb properly, infact it pretty much curdles on my skin which is alarming. Me pores are quite clear so I don't know what the problem is with that.

My skin's quite sensitive so I have to extremely careful with it, one too many extreme reactions from trying various soaps has left it a little scarred and worse for wear!

I find Oil of Olay by far the best for non greasiness, they do a sensitive one as well.. Dont know if you've already tried them but I find them great... I tried the No7 ones for a while but just found them too greasy and took too long to absorbe into my skin..

I find Clinique very good and Oil of Olay. Both not greasy!

i find the eurcerin 5% urea mosturiser (the one that comes in the tub rather than a tube/bottle) really good. i have quite dry and very sensitive skin and i think this stuff is the business. and it's not too dear. you can get it in boots.

Body Shop, Vitamin E. €12 euro for a tub of face stuff that lasts about a year and a big bottle of body stuff that lasts for ages too, and it's really good if your skin is sensitive.

best face cream on the planet which i love is creme de las mere. it is very expensive, 140 euro for an ounce. but well worth it. bt's sell it. i only get a jar of it at christmas and make it last. what i also use is simple light moisturiser. that is very good also and doesnt make ur skin greasy at all.

I might try a few of the cheaper ones first and see if there's no improvement I'll give the expensive one a try, I'd scrape the money together if I thought it would sort me out...
if not I guess I'll be giving Ag Marbh a visit.....

I second that vote for Eucerin 5%

Excellent and doesnt break the bank

No need for all that expensive gimmicky Creme de la Mer.

I had the same problem before!...
.... my doctor recomended this stuff called Aqueous... it comes in a big tub!... You can use it as soap aswell!... Its great stuff, my skin is like silk now!!! ..... it is very very cheap aswell...

it's in most chemists and definitely Boots, down in the pharmacy part with E45 cream and things like that. It's a white tub with green and white label. It's excellent for body but I found it a bit greasy on my face. I use Oil of Olay.

Umm what's wrong with Nivea for Men moisturizer? It's actually good stuff it does it's job well and doesn't leave a man scent after it dries - you can't smell it after it dries at all. It's the only highstreet product I buy; practically everything else I use is expensive brand names like Trumper's or Molton Brown (UMMM :)) stuff; it's good for high street stuff. If it can be used after a shave then it's fine for a sensitive womans skin. Snob.

can't believe no one has suggested E45 yet...personally, it sounds like i'm pretty similar to the OP...really really dry skin around nose, forehead and jawline, this stuff does the job. i use it in moderation - mostly after a shower when i especially find my skin super-desert-like and then evening times or whenever, but just a few small blobs does the trick without leaving your skin greasy, just not that dry, caked feeling. plus it's cheap, and it's widely available - supermarket, drug store, anywhere really.

Lush do an amazing moisturiser called Skin Drink, it just soaks into your skin and hydrates it without being too heavy. I've used E45 before but I felt it made my skin greasy, it looked shiny the whole time!

Ag Marbh had actually posted something obscene, and then edited it to say Nivea for Men. I'll PM you what was posted if you really want to know.

Thanks for all the advice people, I'll let ye know how I get on

i'm telling ya, DR HAUSCHKA rose day cream is literally the best stuff ever. its really cheap in germany (like 15euro for a tube) but about 25euro here.

really rich, but fantastic for dry skin, you can get it in most health food shops!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,380 ✭✭✭daRobot

Simple does the trick for me.Not greasy at all.

Nothing worse then seeing people going around with reflective foreheads.

I bet your man who edited his post, originally said cum, call it male intuition:p

After all the expensive moisturisers I've used in the past, ran out of my usual one day and used my sister's own Boots brand. Only 2 euro and it's the best intensive moisturiser I've ever used.

Defo agree with DR Hauschka, I have both the rose day cream or the quince day cream. You can buy a sample tin of all their products for around 20 euro and see if it suits your face.

I have tried all kinds of creams and this one is the best and natural ingredients.

Clinique is fab - the dramtically different moisturiser. Cheaper option - evian moisturiser is a tenner and its amazing!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 39 Master...Card

Clarins gentle day moisturiser- improves the texture of your skin it's gorgeous. Middlin between the cheap and the creme de la mer pricey enough but well worth it!

tbh OP you'll have to try em out yourself cos everyone's skin is different, and takes different products differently..but at least you have some suggestions to go on!!

Is aloe vera a good moisturiser ?

I didn'y like e45 at all. It blocked my pores and I got a rash because it has lanolin in it. (wtf? I thought lanolin reactions were quite common, why would the put it in a "sensitive skin" brand?)

I like dream cream from lush and palmers cocoa butter.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 741 ✭✭✭michaelanthony

Clinique Moisture Surge Extra. Oil free. Very intensive.

Hardly anyone is allergic to lanolin, which is made from sheep's wool - the allergic reaction is generally caused by the chemicals in the sheep's wool which are due to them eating stuff with pesticides on it.

I use Lush's Imperalis mosturiser which is for combination skin and it works wonderfully. My friend who has very dry skin swears by another of their mosturisers Ultra Bland I think it's called.

They come in smallish tubs but last forever as you only need to use a tiny bit.

So lanolin from organic-y sheep would be ok, but not lanolin from sheep whose farmers use chemically stuff ?

    hmmm, curiouser and curiouser.

Ultra Bland is incredible! You only need a pea sized amount and it gets EVERYTHING off your face, it can be kinda gross looking at the cotton wool afterwards, it's brilliant if you've been wearing a lot of makeup. Also it doesn't sting your eyes, which makes it wonderful for getting rid of eyeliner (anyone else find it annoying the way you have to keep reapplying eyeliner all through the night, but once you get home the bloody stuff won't come off?)

And yes, what I'm saying is that lanolin from organicky (?) sheep won't bother your skin, but of course it's a lot cheaper to use any old sheep's wool so what are companies going to go for? Probably the way they see it is that most people don't react, so why narrow their profit margins?

Astral - A body moisturiser that I find really simple - very few ingredients and non-oily. E45 I found disappeared as soon as I put it on, meaning my face was about as dry as before it was applied...

Clinique Moisture surge extra. It's oil free and very intensive.

Use oil-based moisturisers and makeup. Avoid toners and makeup that contain alcohol as alcohol-based products have a drying effect on skin. ;)

save the money you'd use on cheaper products and buy La Mer.
