I have been given a backup of an MS SQL 2000 database, as the physical file generated by a SQL Backup into the ////backup folder (a .BAK file), as distinct from a bakup of the detatched dababase (the .MDF and .LDF files). I do not already have this database on my system and am at pains to know if I can retrieve it from the .BAK file, and if so, how.

create a new DB with the same name and in enterprise manager restore from file. and select the locations of the data and transaction logs.
