Dell Laptop: Reformat, Possible Driver Issues

    Hello,

I bought a new Dell 9300 laptop. It comes with a 60Gb hardrive, 3GB of which are taken with the Dell Recovery Partition. I want to format this drive totally, and install my copy of XP Pro (licenced) instead. However, Dell do not provide a CD with drivers installed on it, which is quite stupid. The laptop came with XP Home, and while most of the pre-installed software is crap, I would like to have PowerDVD etc after the re-install. Once again, Dell do not provide a CD with all the OEM software installed on it. However I paid for this software, as part of the total laptop price. Does anyone know if Dell provide a recovery CD with drivers, and OEm software installed on it? Where can this be got. I have had a good look around on their site, and can see that I can download the drivers manually, but if I cannot find back-ups for the software I need. Has anyone managed to get this CD/stuff off them.

I will call them later if needed, but would like to get an answer here first if possible.

According to this you'll need to contact Dell.

I could live with having to burn my own XP cd, but not having CD's for all the drivers and stuff. Agh!

I think a lot of manufacturers are going this way. Boo!!!!

Can you not just create a unattended installation and add the drivers to it yourself saves you having to pay dell for a cd.

The drivers can be downloaded from the dell website.

I created a cd for my laptop dell inspirion 510M works perfect. ( snapped the driver cd by accident)

You don't have to pay for the cd. AFAIK they use next day delivery aswell.
