    Merrion Sun night €15 tournie

This is the 5th hand of the tournie so no reads on villian since he hasn't played a hand yet.

    hero has $1100
    villan has $1600

after a few limpers villan rasises 3BBs to 150 from late position
    hero calls with 76o
    everyone else folds

    flop 8 6 2 rainbow.
    hero bets $200
    villan calls

    turn 8
    hero bets $200
    villan call

    river 5
    hero checks
    villan bets $550

    do you call?

I would have folded to the original raise preflop.

The fact that its a rebuy and I have half my chips in the pot, I probably would but you should never have got yourself into that trouble in the first place.

Calling is fine from the blinds

i was the villan and misjudged the hero whom i thought would fold the river. his initial bet looked weak to me and so o gave him a second chance to bluff the pot. i knew i was right to do this when he checked the river but the fact that he had most his money in the pot and it was a rebuy let the hero call.

i had A Q but i thought that the hero could put me on any medium A as i was betting from late position so he probably thought that i had trips with 2 flat calls and a bet on the river.

Sounds like he had you on AQ or AK tbh.

The only hand you could realistically represent that had him beaten was an over pair or A8. your turn bet was only a quarter of the pot. Too small i think to be representing either hand.

One thing about the hand is that I think you're trying to get too tricky in a situation that doesn't warrant it, for a few reasons. Firstly, it's a low-limit tournament where your opponent could be an idiot who will call you down with middle pair. Also, as it's a rebuy tournament, he will be more inclined to call anyway. Finally, getting too tricky with a player whom you have absolutely no information on is not a good idea, imo. This goes for all tourneys, not just low-limit games. In the early stages of a tourney, or when you get moved to a new table, I think that ABC poker is best until you get a feel for the other players.

Dont get me wrong, I like your thinking in the hand, but it's probably better suited to a €100 FO than a €15 game. (There's a compliment there somewhere!).

I would have got it all in with 76 on that flop

Your thinking in this hand is pretty fuzzy. You say you called the flop because
his bet looked weak and you wanted to let him bluff again. Then you call his turn bet because you still think he's bluffing.
Then he checks the river-hooray he must have been bluffing. But why are you betting the river then.Only bluff you are losing to is AK.
Villain is not likely to call you with just A high here so you should check behind
as there's no value in your bet.

i just felt at the time he was betting 2nd pair. the reason i didn't go all in on the flop is because if someone has a draw they'll call u. this is where the problem in my general play lies as i sometimes turn from a strong agressive player to a weak passive player when i'm trying to get tricky, anyway the forum is right this move should have been saved for a freezeout or the later stages. thanks for the contributions
