Anybody going Ice Skating this year? My mate started Working at SmithField this week and said so far it's brilliant. The only thing i'd worry about is that the skangers/childers court is all of 39 foor away from the entrance! We should all organise a big boards day out and go skating lol

Anyone have any info about the RDS one? Someone told me it was too much waz stuff instead of ice last year and it more for kids but i dunno. let us know!

Smithfield on Ice is a poor poor experience. I'd strongly advise all boardsie folk NOT to go. If you need to go skating, wait for one of the other venues.

I'd heard that Smithfield is the best of a bad bunch...

    IFSC being the worst...

most injuries used to occur from the IFSC or RDS, only a few poor bozos like myself got serious injuries from smithfield.

I really pisses me off when I go to these places and find that the biggest show size they haev for ice skates is size 12, when I need a size 14 or 15.

I'm sure I'm not the only person in Dublin to have had this problem. Is there any ice-skating arena where they have big size skates to rent; they must think that people's feet only reach a maximum size of 12 or something.

Has it started yet? I may take my girlfriend there, I'd like to try ice-skating some time in my life :p

I have 4 adult tickets for RDS this Saturday afternoon 19/11/05
(1.30-2.30pm) that I am looking to sell. They normally cost 16 EURO each but as I bought a load of them for a group booking, I got them for 13.50 each.
I will sell them in lots of 2 or the 4 together for 7 EURO EACH.,
    aprox 1/2 price!

I know i think they can fit someting like 400 peoples onto the ice at any one time so that is a lot of babbies i guess. But like i said my mate's working their this year and he's been saying that it's better than last year, and with the Ice Marchals on the ice i dont anything will kick off. Security seams pretty big too.

Your mate lies. It's awful. Don't ever go to Smithfield on Ice and advise all your friends not to go...

I love ice-skating. I used to do loads of roller-blading when I was younger so the ice-skating kinda came naturally. My brother and I have competitions to see how many times we can know each other over and last year we tried to knock over as many other people as possible without touching them, skating towards them and swerving away at the last moment.

Smithfield is definitely the best out of where I've been (Smithfield, RDS, IFSC)
Although maybe, if you're a bad ice-skater, there's a rail in the middle of the RDS to hold onto.

I've been twice, and haven't skated twice. Once too hungover, second couldn't be bothered, but having studied peoples faces throughout the allocated "one hour" (HA!) it kinda went like this:
    :D:):o:(..........:v: ?

    You're an assh0le.

I thought Smithfield was pretty good, but god do we need a PROPER ice rink in Dublin again! Not a ****ty one like Silver Skates, if you've skated in Dundonald up north you know what I mean.

As for the ice marshals, from what I saw in Smithfield, they were irritating little knackers who spent their time showing off and carving up the ice and putting ice shavings all over people with their WAY COOL way of stopping suddenly.

    Was in the RDS.
Very good, well run, lots of security and staff on the ice.
no messers that we could see, lots of kids but they were on the kids ice rink.
They have other stuff in the RDS but didn't go to any of them.
Get discount vouchers as nobody buying tickets at the door seemed to be paying full whack.
    Would go again.
    Parking/traffic is a nightmare.
    TIP
Either get the Dart, 5 minute walk or park your car down beside AIB (7 day pay and display  !) or the road down from the 4 Seasons Hotel but there's no right turn onto this coming from Merrion Road.
