    www.slimdevices.com

    or, more precisely: http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_features.html

Uses a web interface to provide you with a "jukebox" and should do the job. Works on Mac and Linux too! You can either purchase their hardware, run a java based client or open the transmitted stream with an mp3 player.

    Hi,

Bit vague about your setup and what you want but afaik the Squeezebox & the Soundbridge can be controlled by PDA...

I own a Soundbridge... great bit of kit.

Ok yeah sorry Im being too vague. Basically what I want is software not hardware that allows me to have a computer in the back of my room filled with all my music hooked up to speakers etc(Ive got that sorted) that has no monitor keyboard etc.. But that can be controlled thru a web/whatever interface on my PDA. It can a total solution if nessesary(Hacked verion of linux running an apache server with the playing software on the backened is basicaally what I want if it exists)
    That make it more clear?

okay so with slimserver, do this:

    install & setup slimserver (DUH)

the either install winamp to play teh .mp3 stream or install the java-based softaqueez.

This will work for you, but im not sure how fussy you are about this. The interface can be a bit "clunky" on a pda.

welll, if that doesnt work, what about just using VNC? or even telnet?

Works on Windows also. Control it from the above operating systems or via a web browser, no java needed. The server is free, the hardware not :(

Java is needed for the "hardware emulator" called softsqueeze: http://softsqueeze.sourceforge.net/

Theres a program i use on my xda called Media Control that connects to any pc on my wifi network and controls Windows media player.
    http://www.freewareppc.com/multimedia/pocketpcmediacontrol.shtml

It works very well. As long as you have the speakers already wired about the house, download this and ur set.
