I imagine you need to call the council out or the firebrigade..... Don't want the situation like in the states when kids open them up!

Not doing anything ilegal. just need a few hundred litres of water to do some power washing. need to fill a large container. i can fill it in nass on the way up. just didn't want to tow a heavy trailer for the final 20miles or so.

    from http://oasis.gov.ie/public_utilities/fire_services.html
Offences under the Fire Services Act, 1981

Under the Fire Services Act, 1981, it is an offence to:

    * Wilfully obstruct or impede a fire-fighter in the course of his/her duties
    * Knowingly give a false alarm to the Fire Services
    * Interfere with or obstruct any water hydrant or other source of water supply.
    * The penalty for these offences can be a fine of up to 635 euro or a prison sentence of up to six months or both. More serious offences, such as contravening fire safety regulations in relation to the size, design and use of buildings, the provision of adequate fire escape facilities or the maximum number of occupants allowed under the regulations may be punished with a fine of up to 12,700 euro or a prison sentence of up to two years or both.

i work with the fire service and i wud advice u not to go near the hydrants, they arent locked but they are very heavy trying to open, not only that but u need a key branch to open in and a slipper, if u open it without any of this equipment then the water will just shoot straight up. i would suggest that you contact the city council and ask them first...
