What are the chances of getting into an 18+ concert in Temple Bar Music Centre? I'm 16 and don't really look 18. Would they ask for ID?

    I want to see Mogwai.

TBMC can be strict but you can chance your arm

They always do ask for ID there as far as I can remember. I haven't been there in a while though. Your best bet might be to ring up and ask someone in some sort of position of power if they'll make an exception for you. Tell them you're a huge fan of Mogwai.

I saw Flogging Molly there when I was 16. I got in with a blatantly fake Garda ID. The bouncers knew straight away it was fake, they asked me where I got it but told me they'd let me in even though they knew it was a fraud.

Both times I've been their they've asked for everyone's ID at the door, your best bet would be to get your older brothers ID or someone who looks like you. In my experience as long as you have something you'll be alright.

Really venues should bring in some sort of thing like they do in the states. When i was in san francisco earlier this year i was only 20 (too young to drink) they put a big x on both of yr hands with the stamp for the gig over it. I do think its very unfair people cant go and see bands they like just because they are young. Just try to blag yr way in.

I've found TBMC to be more stringent about ID than most places. This is probably becuase they know there are a lot of people in the same situation as yourself. The music scene is really biased against those under 18.

You will almost certainly be asked for ID so I'd recommend you follow Funkstard's advice and borrow one off someone, preferably with the same colour hair and complexion (sp?) as yourself. It's better than nothing and might well work.

Like everyone else has said, TBMC are generally very strict about ID.
It would be well worth getting hold of a fake ID for the night, even if it's a slightly dodgy one. Changes are they won't make too much of a fuss over whether it's authentic or not, once their backs are covered.

i was at a gig there last summer, and was asked for ID (I'm 22) and I didnt bring any, as I've never before been asked at a gig. They wouldnt let me in without an "adult". So my boyfriend who's 25 had to show his drivers licence and be my chaperone. It was all quite embarrassing.

They actually something like this at the TBMC for Dragonforce awhile back; they let everybody in but gave wristbands for the bar to those who had valid ID. Thought that was implemented very well.

In my experience, it usually depends on the band. Unfortunetly for yourself Mogwai don't particulary attract many underagers, so it's not like there's going to be piles of kids outside giving the bouncers hassle.

It's a real hit or miss with them, but they do seem to have gotten less stringent over the past few months so it's definetly worth a shot.

I thought that was an excellent system. I say go for it. maybe bring an ID if you can get one, but if not, chance it. What've you got to lose?

The money he's paid for a ticket if they won't let him in.

Well, you can buy tickets at the door.

I do expect this to sell out so even if teh OP does have a ticket spare s/he can always offload it to someone else on the night.

Aye, I was thinking the same as you though, that it would sell out.

i got lucky when i was in there, the guy who was checking ID went on the phone for a minute so we just sauntered in.

    Ah bollix...

That stupid ****ing law that came in that doesn't allow underaged people on licensed premises after 9 or whatever it is, it's so unbelievably ill-thought out, unfair, stupid and unnecessary.

I shouldn't be forced to pay just because some scumbags used to take their children with them to get hammered, for cases like concerts it shows how blind a blanket ban on underaged people is.

The wristband idea, it's flawless (apart from the odd few who will wash off the marker or take off the wristband, who will probably still be asked for ID) but defunct here because underaged people can't be on the premises, full stop.

Thank god I'm 18 now. During the summer I went to a gig in Cork and wasn't allowed in, even though I'd come from Dublin to see the band. In the end the bassist snuck me in, but still, that's almost never going to happen.

    Stupid ****ing Government

i've seen them turn away people at an idlewild gig, it just depends on what type of bouncer you get.

I've never been asked (unlike the TMBC) but I've seen plenty of others been asked

And would people get turned away?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭Korvanica

well at the dragonforce gig they asked noone for id
it was only if you wanted to buy drink you had to get a braclet thing from the hatch by the door... you had to show id there.. but there was loads a under 18s there

Of course. If its an over 18's gig and your under 18 its illegal for them to let you in, valid ticket or not.

  • have never been asked for ID for a gig in my life. i have never been to the TBMC either, but still. It's not the venue/bouncer's fault, they gotta do their jobs, and you can never blame them for it (begrudge them plenty, but don't blame). It's the fact that venus rarely have Underage gigs because they usually run at a loss (Bar reciepts = big cash). But as an underage music fan, you have to struggle along with these things!

biffy clyro's latest gig in dublin is advertised as an over-14's show, does that mean there'll be no drink?

curses if this is the case

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 629 ✭✭✭sterculelum

So... any ideas how I might get in?

Or is it just not worth buying tickets?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭bounty_hunter

Several people have already suggested ideas.

At an all ages gig (or 14+ in your case) they ask you for ID when your going in. If you have ID proving your 18+ they stamp your hand and then only people with the stamps can buy drink from the bar.

This is usually the case anyway.

I am going to the Cannibal Corpse gig in the TBMC in April. I will be 2 months shy of being seventeen, but i look 18 now if i grow a bit of the oul goatee. Now, should i get one of those ID cards of t'internet, because none of my friends / family really look for me. However, since this gig will not attract a screaming load of 14 year olds in Korn tshirts and woeful make-up, should I be ok with whatever remotely similar ID I can find?

  • fake ids are pointless, if you are 18 you will have proper ID, it's as easy as that, internet ones are useless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭bounty_hunter

There is no point whatsoever in getting one of those ones off the internet, they won't be accepted. Generally accepted forms of ID are drivers licence, passport and Garda Age Card. And some places will only actually accept one or other of those (usually Age Card), they don't give you a choice.
