Price discrepancy for LCD/Plasma screens amongst retailers

I was reading the article in yesterdays Sunday Business Post on the life of plasma screens and the sidebar article caught my eye: it listed retailers and their various prices for 15' LCD, 17' LCD, and so on. While most were the same or close, I couldn't get over the fact of how much more expensive one retailer was (won't name names, but it was in a national newspaper and the scan is attached) - almost twice the price  for a 42 inch plasma.

Granted the comparisons were purely on size, and the article does specifically state that no account is taken of extra features but come on - who are they kidding!

Um, you did name names or as good as.

I'd say that this is a case of creative journalism at it's finest. Peats have a section down stairs that specialises in high end equipement, the sort of stuff you want, but generally can't afford. The chances are that the higher prices are for these products where as the lower prices are for inferior products.

In my opinion the comparsion is fundemently flawed since the prices are not for the same products.

Yep, I don't trust that paper thing one bit.

True, and I must add that don't live in Dublin so can't get to any of the retailers mentioned (with the exception of online ones). I agree with the creative journalism bit, a generic LCD isn't the same as a Sony of the same size.

You gotta love these people that either havnt a clue what they are looking at or are deliberately misrepresenting the facts. Just as well they didnt go into B&O , people might get the idea that their stuff is expensive. :

I'm sure if they went into the pc section of peats they would have found a 17" monitor with a tv input for less than €800, but then again , that would be almost approaching proper journalism.

I was looking into a 23" one the other day and was a bit shocked at the discrepancies as well - dabs.com was quite a bit cheaper than any retail outlets - like about €100

Journalism like that is retarded, that would be like slating a BMW dealer for chargin more for a 4door 5Series than your local VW dealer selling a 4-door Polo..

It is so true that you can manulipate facts to prove what ever you want !

hd ready can add 30%-50% to the price...

Can't help noticing that the 37" plasmas are dearer than the 42" plasmas in Dixons.

'Prices are lowest priced available in shop and do not reflect higher specifications attached to some models'.

    Lazy research by a technoramus.

 Maybe that includes VAT? Do all the prices include VAT or are they excluding VAT?
I've been toying with the idea of getting one for Christmas.

Quality of reporting/journalisim over the past few years is very poor.
