    hi folks,

i sold my old 928s a few years back (to fund a honeymoon) and saw it advertised in the buynsell a couple of months back.. would love to know who has it now and what they think of it.. anyone seen a metallic blue Porsche 928s on an 80 G plate?

does anyone else have pride and joys they've regrettably sold and wonder where they are?

I have seen that car !

No lately though, possibly a year back. Does/did it have a non-euro style plate with a large font ?

dunno MercMad.. i got stopped by the cops when i first bought it, because it had black and silver plates.. so i had the std white ones put on. i hope the new owner is enjoying it as much as i did..

god, i need a porsche again... this bucket of Discovery i'm driving has absolutely no charm..

anyone know if importing a pre 75 car from the USA still attracts import duties?

yes, it does, but if you source from within the EU, you're only looking at the standard 50 euro's of VRT...

From the US Customs Duties of 2/3% apply, plus VAT at 21% on the "invoiced" value of the car + shipping.
Pain in the ass but sure there you go.

Plenty of threads about the full costs if you're taking the plunge again!

    thanks fellas,

i rang the VRT office in the meantime and they gave me the same info..

    7k for a good '76 930
    9k for a mint '76 930.

...and the customs guy is the guy who tells me if it is mint, or just nice.

i'm sure he must be a factory trained porsche mechanic to give that sort of valuation, mustn't he???

Be very careful and don't get caught here!!! because when you ring the VRT office, they tend to ONLY give you the VRT duties payable, assuming the car is from another EU country. The Customs & Excise duties that we were discussing in the earlier posts are different. The VRT comes ON TOP of those.

By the way it is rare that VRT office would class a car as mint. They generally would almost automatically go for the qualification "good". I always have to pay the 'middle' figure (they alway give me 3 figures instead of 2: bad, good, mint condition)

I have just put a deposit on a 1974 911, total cost of about 10,000 euro. I am returning from Australia after 4 years - does anyone know how much taxes I will be liable for ? I am returning before Christmas

AFAIK, If you had owned the vehicle for circa 6 month before returning to Ireland, you could import it tax free.

Otherwise you will have to pay VRT (€50 for vehicles over 30yrs old) plus import duty, and VAT.
(Imports from outside the EU are liable to duty and VAT).

I'd suggest an email to www.ros.ie for a quote of what you can expect to pay.

On that note, brake lights are for when you're braking, the amount of cars with dodgy wiring, the brake lights lighting constantly.

    Sorry for being off-topic
