ok cool. You are a brilliant photographer.

Just a quick question, I'm going to see bob dylan at the end of the month, Would this setting sound right?

    Sutter speed 1/30
    Arp: 3.0

Maybe i'm way of, but it's the point theater, and i've not ever done any proper concert photogrpahy. Only once.

just quickly if you could tell me what settings would be good? Thank you! :)

the point is generally great cos they have proper lighting. there is no right settings as light at gigs is generally constantly changing

i use anything from about 1/15th to 1/1000th
and apertures from f1.4 up to f16
    and iso's from 100 to 3200

are you shooting officially as bob dylan is very strict about photographs normally so unless you're there with an official press pass in the photo pit you may get kicked out or your camera taken off you

Yeah, Well I'm going to be standing, so If i'm lets say 10 -20 feet back, I doubt the guy would see my Canon G6, quite a small camera in itself.

i know what u mean about varying lights, but seeing as u know the point well. what would u recommend?

Excellent pics Dotorg, I'm guessing you do have a press pass or you know a lot of rock stars:) Great way to earn a living.

dubtom> it doesn't earn a living, it's an expensive hobby

shrimp> you have to wait to see the lighting on the night before you can decide on shutter speed etc. my only advice is don't use flash.

Love the eyesclosed pic. Really captures the action/passion of the bassist.

    exellent work DotOrg.

do you never use flash? I know never is probably strong, but in these cases:

would you think a touch of flash could have been used? Not a critique, just curious.

lvoe the look of this one -

I really like the bloc party one, and as for not using flash, that's pretty much a dead cert. Wouldn't want to attract attention to myself + washed out images.

The last one on the list. < what sort of prices/size do you do for this photo?Just out of curiosity?

virtually never, though i've been experimenting with wireless flash as it doesn't create the bland, flat looking regular flash shots

as regards those two shots, the coldplay one, chris martin was at the back of the stage and i was at the long end of my 200mm lens and a flash wouldn't have even created any impact due to the huge stage lighting rig that the main stage at glastonbury has. but that shot works due to the backlighting, with regular flash it would have killed that whole style

the mercury rev shot may have used a very small ammount of fill flash but even then i doubt i'd want it as the shadows and smoke you see are what creates the whole vibe of the atmosphere on stage

as for what prices/sizes i charge for prints, it's being decided at the moment as a print shop is being opened on my site pretty soon. i won't be selling many and they won't be mass produced and i see them as little pieces of art so they'll proibably range from about €25 and upwards

I don't think either of those photos mentioned require any flash. Think they're both strong on their own and as you said the Coldplay one would have been ruined if flash had been used.

I'm not anti-flash myself but find it very tricky to use correctly. A properly used fill flash can really bring a picture to life. In rock photography though I think you're right to stick to using the stage lighting.

Love the Disturbed pic, the 3 dimensional effect is hard to get in a photo.

Do you have the spec of the fish eye lens(for D70), Id love to get one and try it.

    Very jealous , as always.
