All you need to know really,
Linux has come a long way with gaming these days and whataver distro you go for the forums should be able to tell you what you need to do. I wouldnt be able to suggest a gaming distro for you but maybe that site might.

The current Games Knoppix is based on a pre version of the 4.0.2

    # Why isn't (Enemy Territory, Quake X demo, Unreal Tournament X Demo, Americas Army, game server for game Z) included?

I'm aware that these games exist and I know that they would run on a games knoppix without problems. But I need a permisson from the developers because these games have a strict license. Before releasing the current Games Knoppix, I wrote mails to each publisher/developer of the above games but got no answer. I tried it but it's not possible at the moment.

Some games like World Of Warcraft and Half-Life basically run out of the box when you compile WINE from source code.

However, WINE does not run all games, it's mostly for applications. But there's TransGaming Cedega, which allows you to run 100s of games right out of the box. This is not free though, it's a subscription service. But what you get for it, I'd say, it's worth its money.

When it comes to games, what distro you use doesn't really matter a lot. It would be good to choose a distro which makes it easy to get your hardware working.

You do not buy cedega you subscribe to it. It costs €5/$5/£3 (AFAIR) per month and the minimum term is three months. If you subscription lapses you can still use your cedega. So you can in effect buy cedega for $15. :)

All the major OpenGL games work natively on linux, but they're crap on ATI graphics cards.

    The big ones include:

    Unreal Tournament 2004
    Doom3
    Quake4
