    Funny the inq usually gets stuff right (ok there have been some stinkers) but I heard Dell were laying of 50 in ireland shortly after they missed thier targets recently ... this could be that same 50.. ??

    Dell == Limerick == Dell

    So any layoffs there is pretty scary stuff indeed.... they don't need another Wang...

    Its true they have gave redundency options for up to 60 people, mostly in the back office, finance and operations departments. Many of these back office jobs can now go to india where they pay them about 10% of what they would pay an irish person.

    Stories here:

    The worst thing is that many of these people had been out to India to train the Indians who where eventually going to take their jobs

    This thing happens every year. Dell's busiest month is October, and they hire a load of people for that month. Once October is over, it's bye bye to these people.

    Yep it's true Capt'n. Rumour has it that Dell are looking to move more and more tech support out of Ireland next year on a phased basis. While India has terrible customer service, the labour costs are lower than whale ****.
