If anyone is lucky enough to have an american itunes account, you can buy the episodes of the new series for $2. First 6 episodes are up.

The resolution is (I think 220x176) for most iPods so I'd say that's how big the video would be.

Don't know how big the filesizes would be or how good the quality is but I'd imagine since they're meant to be played on such a small screen it can't be impressive

In terms of quality, I'd say at that resolution, you'd probably enjoy the episodes better watching them on your neighbour's telly from across the street.

the new iPods have 320x240 resolution and play video at 30fps. I have one and it plays video excellently. I've watched a number of tv episodes and movies on it already and have no complaints.

Yeh I'd say they're great for watching on iPods but I dunno how good it'd be if you were watching the episodes through iTunes or on your PC with the bigger screen

If you could output a full screen of the 320x240 to a normal tv it might be watchable enough. On a monitor with 1280 or higher res it would still look very pixilated. Least that seems to be the case with video cds, which I think are also 320x240.

isnt itunes meant to be competeting with WMP so anything you download should play on your desktop and not just for the ipod?

yeah, you can play it big screen on pc aswell. quality is decent enough, and if you want to know what happens bad enough...!

Well it will play on your desktop yeah, but it's not apple's big offensive on wmp yet. They were very careful to brand it the "iPod with video" and not the "video iPod". Video playback on the ipod is just an additional feature, apple aren't really pushing it as a portable movie player and going head to head with wmp yet. Whenever apple do launch their video offensive against wmp you can expect the videos to be of much better quality.

I think you can buy gift vouchers for itunes on ebay. That way you'd be able to open an american account.

I read this today and thought it was interesting... It looks like this has proven to be a very popular way for people watch their shows.

    'Lost' Is Found by Downloaders

One month after offering downloads of Lost and Desperate Housewives for $1.99 each, ABC said Tuesday that Lost was leading Housewives in the number of purchases. (In the ratings, Housewives leads Lost.) The network did not indicate just how many sales of the two shows had been made. They're being offered on Apple computer's iTunes site, and while they can be downloaded on the company's new video iPod, it was assumed that most consumers were watching the shows on regular PC monitors. Although the network had hoped that the availability of the shows on the Internet would help boost ratings by allowing viewers to keep track of the various plot twists, ratings have in fact fallen significantly since the Apple announcement. The Associated Press observed Tuesday that while the three episodes of Housewives prior to the Apple announcement averaged 27.2 million viewers, the four since then have averaged 25.2 million. In the same two periods, the number of viewers for Lost has fallen from 22.7 million to 20.7 million.
