Firstly, his name is GERRY Adams :)

He's a smart man. Would be dreadful if he got into government, but he knows what he's doing.

One thing I respect him for is that he really stands up for Irish people.

Other than that, he's too extreme for me (extreme socialist, extreme bull****ter, extremeist friends.)

ya, totally picked up on the extremes

he was telling everyone in the room that we were all leaders and blah blah blah

i dunno, something turned me off about him.

Yeah. If they ever want to become mainstream they really need to tone it down.

They need to lose the scumbag element as well (a lot of SF heads are ex-scumbags.)

The thread will prob be moved to Politics eventually as these tend to spiral into a UI (United Ireland) pandemonium but generally you will find that the posters here have either strong opions for or against SF. It's rare to find people that go "aw, they're ok like", particularly with the links to PIRA and all. A lot of accusations have been made against SF, some true and some not, but they are still going and gaining votes.

I have respect for the man, he has led the party through a lot of hard times and managed to arrive at a point where they are now leaders of the peace process and a peaceful NI may be achieved - touch wood. As to their political agenda and him being a phony, it's still politics and these men are politicians. They will kiss babies and smile at the press because it suits them and their political gains. So will every other politician, in NI, ROI and Canada.

yep..but those politicians don't order them to murder innocent men, women and children (this doesn't include times of war). And for the people that come and say that SF is separate from the provisional IRA (will not use just IRA to describe them as they are an insult to the memory of Michael Collins) get real. Sinn Fein are nothing but scum and if they ever get into power the country is screwed.

Insult to the memory of Michael Collins? That's rubbish. The Michael Collins we know is a character in a film, not a real person. The real Michael Collins was happy as anything to have people shot or killed and to bomb stuff. He began the IRA because he was 100% an IRA man

Him and McGuinness, both very clever men. But I don't trust them. Gerry Adams looks like a deputy headmaster and Martin McGuinness looks like a clown without make-up.

well im a member of SF but im not gonna get into another republican/unionist/scumbags argument. I think gerry adams is a great leader, it just shows with the growing popularity of the party. Sinn Fein are looking for a united Ireland but even if we dont get it in our lifetime i think that it is important to represent the lasting republicans and SF do this very well.

he is extreme in his speeches but he is dealing with an extreme issue.

anyway im hungover and i dont want to type anymore!!

SF are extreme socialists and would destroy the Irish economy.

How anyone in North America can support them is beyond me. They might as well support the Chinese Communist Party!

Another chance to update my ignore list. woo hoo. And sorry in advance if i sound extreme.

I hate the guy, don't believe the IRA have 'embraced' the law, and would be pretty confident that if they don't get the right result out of politics i.e. a united ireland, that they will be willing to resort to violence. Gerry was a member of the IRA and as shown by the recent Northern Bank robbery, the guy cannot be trusted. He lied boldly and brazenly to the public and was caught out. And the votes still go up.

Maybe it's not him I hate, maybe it's that he's doing what i'd love to be able to do - using people's ignorance against them. Damn Shinners....

I despise Gerry Adams and his politics. I despise him because he associates with terrorists. The PIRA ceased being freedom fighters a very very long time ago and became terrorists instead. I feel that Sinm Féin currently prey on the deprived, disenfranchised and disillusioned parts of society in order to boost their members and to gain political support.

But you've got to admit that the man is extremely charismatic and persuasive.

i could just imagine you in power:rolleyes:

FF are extreme capitalists and would destroy Irish society.

if so, then why haven't they done it already? they've been in power long enough.

i have no respect for Gerry, Martin et al and wouldn't trust them as far as i can sh!t

Yes Sinn Féin are extreme, but in government we have the other end of the spectrum, two identically conservative parties alike in nearly every way but the name fighting for power. Enda Kenny for god's sake...

I don't believe SF would cope in goverment on their own but in a few years I see them as part of a coalition party a very real possibility, and I'm not completely decided on the issue but I think I'm beginning to think it might be a good idea for that to happen.

so, question, if a poll was taken on popular support, where would sinn fein be?? whose the top party in ireland?? what are the parties?? forgive my ignorance.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 372 ✭✭Outcast

Fianna Fail are the top party in a coalition with the Progressive Democrats
Fine Gael are the main opposition and have spent a lot of time in power over the years.
The Labour Party would probably slot in next
    Then Sinn Fein come in.
