When one of the teams has no front row I think due to injuries or sin binnings. Ball gets fed in and goes straight to the back row, no driving allowed. I'm not 100% sure on the details but I believe it's something like that.

Basically it's like a free kick since you're guaranteed the ball and you can't make or lose ground.

You'll often find it in the younger schools rugby matches - usually one team will request uncontested scrums due to an inexperience front row or whatever. Awful waste of time and effort for what is, as Dr J pointed out, essentially a free kick.

you cant have unexperienced out of position players playing in the front row.
all front row players have to be designated as such and every team has to have a certain amount of front row subs. if these become unavailable for whatever reason you essentially have a guaranteed scrum for both sides for safety reasons. its unfortunate but required. the english loose head is 19 stone and about 6foot 2. you couldnt have somebody that didnt know what they were doing going up against him.

    Thanks for that.

Any other rules like that. Could some clear up when a penalyt shoot out might occur in rugby and who it would be run.

The most famous and closest relative to a "penalty shoout out" would be the drop goal competition which decided the 95 world cup in South Africa.

Theres a big list of the things that happen to decide a match, I'll see if i can find it.

There was no drop - goal comp in the 1995 world cup final - Stransky popped one over in the second half of extra time to win.

    Something like this:

If at the the end of normal time in the final the score is equal, then 2 periods of 10 minutes extra time will be played. If teams are equal after extra time then the team scoring the most tries in the final will be declared the winner. If tries are equal a penalty shootout will decide the winner. Each team will nominate three players from the fifteen that finished the match to take a drop-kick penalty from anywhere along or behind the 22 metre line. After three shots each the leading team will be declared the winner. If the teams are equal, different players will take alternate shots until the tie is broken
