hey, I'm thinking about buying the game around christmas time and i have been reading some of the help threads, which are great, but im still a bit confused about realms, what are the difference, i know about the pvp, pve and so forth, but do the name of the realms mean anything?
Also, how do you join a guild?
Also, when you enter the game is it easy to get parties together to go fight?
Whats the best race and class to ease you into the game
If you guys have any hints and tips, it would be great, but i suppose it would be best if i just played around first, but still I don't want to go in and have no idea what im doing.

Inquisitive little thing, aren't you. Let me try help you.
but do the name of the realms mean anything?

No, just names for servers. They don't mean anything.
Also, how do you join a guild?
Ask someone to invite you from a guild. you shouldn't really worry abotu a guild until later levels - But they are handy to have someone willing to help you out in instances and what not.
Also, when you enter the game is it easy to get parties together to go fight?

Yes, it's pretty easy. the first few levels you won't need help with anything. Whatever area you are in, there will be people with similar levels and the same quests. You can usually ask for people to group with in chat. All you need to know is LFG - Which means looking for group.
Whats the best race and class to ease you into the game
There is no best race and class. I know you want the end-it-all answer for this but the facts are, there are none. It depends on what you want out of the game. The race isn't really that important, there are only subtle racial differences. I'll outline what each class is useful for.

Warrior - The warrior is all melee based. Basically, he can take alot of punishment and dish out alot of punishment. A safe choice and always useful for instances. You'll get into groups easy with this guy but I kind of got bored with my warrior.

Rogue - I'm currently playing as a rogue. They are great fun to be. You can stealth and sneak around. Their damage per second is really high but their defense is not as soid as a warrior but stronger than cloth wearers like mages and priests. Rogues are typically the best gankers in the game. if you like the idea of being able to walk around unnoticed and spring behind someone, stunlocking them and backstabbing your way to victory, then go for a rogue. the only downside of a rogue is that you are not as useful as a warrior in a group so at later levels, you'll find it harder to get into groups, but it's not impossible.

Mage - The mage dishes out the most damage out of all but also, cannot take all that much damage. He's a spellcaster - There are different kinds of mages you can eventually be, depending on what you really focus on. A mage is a tricky character to play. You need to keep your distance (which is easily possible with frost spells to slow people's movement, etc..) If you like the idea of being able to dish out a serious amount of damage, have fancy spells but having to be cautious due to the limited amount of punishment you can take, then a mage is for you.

Priest - The priest has one soul purpose. You heal. You're not the damage dealer that the mage is but you are very useful for groups. Your soul purpose throughout the game is to heal people in groups. I've never played a priest so I can't tell you how fun they are to be - I wouldn't like to spend my entire time healing but you are the most sought after for groups and guilds. Useful character, lots of spells but not sure on how fun they are to play. Maybe someone else here can be some helpful.

Paladin - This is a alliance only class. Paladins are basically untouchable.. The problem is, Paladins don't dish out alot. They can take alot and also heal. Gadai plays a paladin and he posts on here - Maybe he can give you more insight into the class.

Shaman - This is a horde only class and probably one of the most complete classes in the game. Virtually impossible to beat in PvP and a fun character to play. They rely on totems to buff themselves up and get the ghost wolf form early on which allows you to run faster as a wolf which saves alot of time getting from A to B. If you are going horde, then I'd go Shaman all the way.

Druid - Druid is fun in that you learn different animal forms. You're a bit fo everything. I didn't like grinding with my druid however but the new animal forms are fun to learn. You're tough in PvP too. Not the worst choice to be. I leveled one to 31 and left the server due to it being PVE.

Warlock - I haven't played them. Couldn't give you too much infor on them. A real dark horse to be honest.

Hunter - I hate them in PvP, but they are great to solo with and you get to tame your very own pet. You rely on traps, sending your pet in to melee while you stay back from a distance and hit long ranged shots with your bow. I wouldn't pick one personally but if you like having a pet then hunter is for you.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now. I'm sure someone else will be mroe throrough outlining a class.

Thats great info given by dlofnep -
about the warlocks they are the hardest to use and the least played in the game but can be unreally powerful.

I've a 60 Warlock on Arthas. We're insanely powerful in PvP and PvM if you know what you're at.

    wow thanks thats great.
ill probably go for a warrior first...cos i play D2 and i know how easy it is to die when u first play,so hopefully ill be able to take dmg, live and learn. :)

I was wondering, so if I create my new character, a warrior, in a pve realm, can i move that character to a pvp realm? or do i have to start again from lvl 1 in the new realm?

Youll never be able to transfer from pve to pvp due to the inherant difficulty in levelling up on a pvp server as compared to a pve server.

ah ok, so i would be stuck in the pve realm, thats cool, it would let me get my feet on the ground and get to know how to play the game, and then move on to a pvp realm and get myself a mount.:)

You won't be able to transfer your character onto a PVP server. if a PVP server interests you - Start off on one. I enjoy them the most. Don't worry about being ganked by horde members. It won't really happen you until you move on later in the game anyways - And it happens both ways. Besides, you're not going to get ganked every second - It's occasionally it may happen, but it makes the game more interesting IMO.

PVP all the way. Last thing you want is to lvl up a character on a PVE server to 60 and realise, you wanted PVP all the time.

I would have to say that rogues are pretty awesome. Im level 50 atm and i love it. I wouldnt agree with you when you say its harder to get into groups at higher levels. I totally agree with warriors being more useful (main tanks etc) but rogues are needed for sapping, dps, lockpicking and all sorts of other crap.

What class you pick is entirely dependant on you but just remember there are different uses for classes.

i never really did instances with wlocks before but having done sunken temple the other night with one i would have to agree. Warlocks are underplayed but combine the damage of a shadow priest with a pet and all sorts of buffery and magical thingies.

Shadow priests do absolutely insane damage. A shadow priest is a priest who specialises in shadow magic. There was a 60 page forum post on how shadow priests "melt faces". They are one of the most deadly classes out there if you use them correctly.

Most people respecialise at lvl 60 to be healing priests for instances but up to that most priests go shadow and eat people alive.

You dispute that it's harder to get into groups but agree with the fact that warriors are more useful? Interesting. Majority of LFG's ask for a tank and healer. The other 3 are optional meaning that they'll usually go for whomever is the highest three levels or whomever is the most relevant for the quest/instance. Sometimes this works in the rogues favour, sometimes not. So, it is infact "harder" to get into a group that a warrior. Keyword being "harder" and not "impossible" or "really hard".

Agreed, Shadow priests can dish out alot of damage. I obviously was limited in my time - To which I didn't outline the different specs of each class. ;)
