Hi, I did my leaving cert in 2000, I just had to post here to let you guys know that the world will not end if you don't get the results you want. There are so many options available to you, and you shouldn't get yourselves worked up trying to get x amount of points.

The leaving cert is incredibly over hyped and it is not fair on the students, who are forced to believe that an amazing result is the only way to securing a half decent future.

This is not so. I failed maths, so technically, I failed the leaving cert. I wanted to do journalism in DCU, and at the time it was 470 points to get in.

Obviously, with no maths, it didn't matter how many points I got, so I went to Coliaste Dhulaigh and did a 2 year HND journalism course.
From here I went to Ballyfermot college of further Education, where I obtained a HND in media production, specialising in Radio Broadcasting, and I have just graduated (yesterday in fact) with a BA Hons degree in Media Production and Media Management.

All this, without a leaving cert!

I would suggest to any of you applying through the CAO to also apply for similar PLC courses.

Hope this helps, I just wanted to share a bit of knowledge with you all.

    Audrey
