    Hi,

I have a nephew who wants me to install MSN Messenger on his PC :( , so that he & his friends can IM etc. - I gather it's the "new thing" in class.

I have an aversion to all things MS (says he as he types away using XP) & I'm looking for alternatives to MSN, so that he & his mates can communicate.

    All suggestions appreciated

What's wrong with MSN Messenger? It's pretty damn user-friendly.

I use MS Messenger, no probs. I know a guy who uses it to make video calls every night to his Girlfriend in Sweden, again no probs.

Trillian is a usefull alternate, integrates all the major IM programs so if some of his mates use YAHOO, or AOL they can still keep in touch

    Get it from here: http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

Trillian is probably the only one worth touching..and even then, I'd have to MSN Messenger is OK.. most of the security problems with are down to ID 10 t-class users.. + it is (As stated already) pretty damn user-friendly. :p

I've been using google talk for the last couple of weeks and find it excellent, although I think it's still in beta phase. You need a gmail account to be able to use it at the moment - if you need a gmail account, pm me your email (any webmail address will do) and I'll send you an invite. I've a load of a load of invites that I've not used, so it's no hassle.

http://www.meebo.com is the best web based messenger out there. Also lets you log onto gtalk, icq, yahoo, aim, jabber all at the same time.
