Over raising preflop

Is there ever any justification for raising amounts far greater than 3BB in cash games?

This situation arose tonight. Short handed .10/.20 NL on VC, i get Kings 4 times in less than a half hour. 3 times they get cracked to far inferior hands(once to 5 3 off). I realise quickly that nothing can make these people fold preflop. So i start raising a lot more (6/7BB) preflop with premium hands to narrow the field. No folds.

On the 4th time i got kings, i was on the button. 6 limpers. I raise it to 6BB, virtually anouncing i have AA/KK/AK. 6 callers. CO flops a set of 7s with A7 off. By this time i'm ready to go home.

Any suggestions on what to do in this situation? Is it justifiable to be raising so much, if people aren't going to fold and i then have to play a multiway pot with a vurnerable hand?

You have it the wrong way round! Raise as much as will be called with your premium pairs. If you can get all in preflop then just push.

You're actually completely correct, and i'm not sure why that never occured to me. If people are willing to call my all ins with crap then i'll take my chances.

Ha, just got pocket kings AGAIN(5 times in an hour, no other premium pairs), pushed, got called by A9, doubled up....

thats the problem with micro-limit cash games. Outdraws by ultra-loose fish happen all the time. Long term you'll take their cash though...

Yeah i mean if there are 7 limpers before you just push. Even if you push and its folded you have picked up 7 BB. Dont get caught in the trap of feeling AA or KK gives you a god given right to take down a big pot. Be happy to pick up 3/4/5BB with them at no risk rather then play the hand 5 handed.

At the start of a tournament I always like to play in a way that fools my opponents. For example if there are alot of Europens at the table I like to pretend Im from a third world country so that whenever I raise everyone at the table will fold becasue they think Im too hungry to be bluffing.

Also late in a tournament if I am in late position I like to pretend that I am on the phone and cant get to the computer, but this only works sometimes.

Also try to mix it up a bit like sometimes pretend that you cant call because your mouth is full of fig rolls, or sometimes if your in early position and you suspect that your opponent may be weak...pretend your mouth isnt full when it actually is stuffed with leftover of last nights shepherds pie.

It can be useful to alter your table image too like sometimes wear a dress if your a man and play some hands with tape over your eyes. Also wearing mittens so you cant pick up your cards is a great trick to push your opponents off a monster, an actual monster.

    Anyway hope this helps.

rofl imagine how stupid you look as you struggle to pick your cards up and eventually give up and declare all-in.

Bottom line - you need them to be prem pairs...% wise rasing/all in preflop will win you cash I however lost $68 to 3J's against my PP of Aces. Still I know in the long run I've made more money raising pre-flop than lost...
