I recently acquired an R5 TP Tour issue from a US PGA caddy and had it shafted to my spec. I have hit the R7, G2, G5, R5 and almost every new driver under the sun and i can say that the R5 Tour is the best driver i have ever hit in my life.

This is my .02c but if your considering spending €300+ on a driver, get your swing analysed for launch monitor data, ie: Clubhead speed, spin rate, launch angle, tempo etc. When you have this data take it to a reputable club maker and have him build a driver suited to your swing. i promise you wont be dissapointed.

the g2 is a much better driver in my opinion; especially with the aldila NV shaft.

Having said that, I have tried the r5 and I had no problems with it, so it comes down to personal preference

I had mine measured here in Belfast. If you ask around a few of your local proshops, someone should be able to point you in the right direction

All the new driver heads are much of a muchness, It comes down to what you like the look of as swinking said. The shaft is much more important. Too stiff and you wont be able to load it, too soft you will overload it. As a rule of thumb, regular is for swingspeeds sub 100mph, stiff is for 100-110/115 and x is anything above that.

I have tried the brother's R7 a few times but find it quite difficult to hit sweetly and consistently. The odd time I caught it just right it made a lovely noise and flew but only 10 - 15 yds more than my cheapo €85 driver which I can hit a lot more consistently.
When I play with my bro, (off 23, I'm still off 28) I regularly outdrive him. For the money I'd say the golden rule is try before you buy. Celbridge driving range has a Mc.Guirks shop there. They should let you try a few on the range to see what you like.

Does anyone know of anywhere around Dublin/Leinster that you can try drivers out before you buy? The local proshop doesn't exactly have a big selection!! Cheers.

THe R7 is not harder to use, if you think so its in your head. Because the models of all taylormade drivers is practically the same. I found the r7 one of the best drivers i have ever hit.

It is actually less forgiving than the r5 => easier to hit.
